GPS: How Does the US Satellite System Run the World? The Global Race to Geolocate (Documentary)

Global positioning systems have transformed our way of life. We rely on them for everything from navigation to measuring changes in sea levels and tracking money. Who provides the signal? How do they do it and at what cost? Is GPS empowering us or paving the way for a ‘Big Brother’ state?
At the moment, GPS is dependent on US satellites. If America were ever to ‘switch off’ the signal, it could bring down the entire economy of continents and render all our complicated weapons useless. Now, the race is on to develop rival GPS systems that do not rely on US technology. Europe, China, Russia, India and Brazil are all developing their own versions. But how will these systems co-exist? And is America prepared to give up its monopoly?
In this documentary, we examine the wonderful world of geolocation - its future uses, those who promote it and those who are worried about its implications for society.
This documentary was first released in 2013.

As with all products , greed generates problems that become self destructive. What is suggested will fail because TOO MUCH information will obscure the wanted information. Want to know the route ? then why MUST we be told of resturant locations ?

I think it was the movie "Circus" where the orchestra-leader murders his rival in love by changing the beat of the music just enough to throw the trapezes off. I wonder what the Pentagon might be able to do by detuning the world's GPS just a hair at a strategic moment?

This origins of GPS and civilian access as stated in the video is WRONG. IF YOU WANT PRIVACY and don't want your LOCATION CAPTURED search KZread for BRAXMAN and regain your privacy. IF YOU WANT GPS WITH PRIVACY, buy a GPS receiver like Tom Tom, etc. The US GPS has several additional services such as transmitting orders to US Troops, encryption keyes, etc.
