The management of the Amboseli national park is now headed to the County government of Kajiado. This follows the conclusion of the public participation process, where the majority of respondents endorsed the transfer. Residents from Kajiado County said the transfer will help create jobs and generate revenue for the devolved unit. However, the proposal was also opposed by a section of the public who say the county doesn’t have the requisite capacity to manage the fledgling Park. In 2023, President William Ruto directed the Ministry of Tourism to hand over the management of the park to Kajiado County.
