Assuming a Liberal government was in-charge at the time, the detainees would STILL have been released as it was a court order to release them and NOT some government decision. These people who commit crime would have STILL committed the crime, regardless of which government sit in power, saying this issue is purely because of Labor is ridiculous as best and kinda stupid at worst.

Because a court said to do so, not the Government... some idiots in these comments cannot understand that a COURT and the GOVERNMENT are two separate bodies and institutions, the Government and in this case parliament write the laws, the courts enforce the laws. Under our constitution, it would be illegal to detain them indefinitely and so they were ordered to be released..

Please think through the ideas and thoughts you have before you comment them... if we disregard what the highest court in the land rules then we effectively have no rights and no rule of law. This is quite literally the worst thing the Australian government could do and you will find the Liberal party would not defy the court either. Government gets it legitimacy through two sources, the Constitution of Australia and the King of Australia. By defying the High Court of Australia you are both defying the Constitution AND the King, and thus your government is illegitimate and prone to being dissolved by the King. You might ask, why is that? This is because the Constitution outlines that Justices of the High Court are appointed by the Governor General who is the Kings official representative in Australia, i.e the King. if we were to do such a thing it would have massive consequences. tldr; const says high court is right and king appoints, you would be defying both if you violated the order and thus be illegitimate

It’s not just detainees, it’s the youth and adults across the country committing offences and continuously getting bail multiple times. There are cases where some of these imbeciles have had bail 10+ times. At what point would a judge think to themselves, ok perhaps now that this offender has repeatedly committed offences on numerous seperate bails that now might be the time to reject bail. What a joke. Law enforcement do a great job but bail is the constant issue. Look at Queensland, look everywhere.

It's a lawyers picnic the immigration high court cases, and a rort Labor knows been going on for years.

This elderly couple could've died. One incidence is too many. It is just incapability and the two ministers should be sacked immediately, PM should hold a conference and apologise in public for putting the Australians in danger, and the released detainees should be detained and no further release should be made. There's no other way to prove the government cares for average Australians.
