What could be the illness if juvenile gouldian seems to most of the time tuck his head behind wing- and just sitting still quite tame- or do they do that with all illnesses

Hello, I love your show. I have had two yellow gouldiands (not related) that are star gazing. Do you have any suggestions for that. Thank you, Ken London Ontario, Canada

Hi. Star gazing is a stress related response whereas twirling is a far more serious issue caused by illness or injury. In the case of star gazing you can improve it by reducing stress levels. Lower the number of birds in the cage. If the cage is small moving it to a bigger cage will help. Add stress perches and give a good general vitamin to improve resistance to illness as when they stress the immune system is weakened. The stress may be coming also be coming from the bird being bullied by a more aggressive individual or as a result of the bird being in an area of your house that is too busy. Essentially when the bird looks up and over it's shoulder it is a nervous automatic reaction as it is looking for an escape route or a higher perch to escaoe too.

As always a great show ! Excuse me for the randomness of my question but do you ever had hermaphrodite gouldian finch ? I think I got one and it’s pretty frustrating to not know I would love to have some feedback on it if you ever encounter this probleme Last year « he » was with a hen the full season, 3 rounds with a lot of eggs not fertilized This season I tried with one hen, not that much egg but not fertilized but he was the one always in the nest Then with an other hen, only few eggs again but he still is the one who spent 80% of the day in the nest… when I introduce him to the new hen he sing and dance but then act like a hen himself … so I’m really lost. I think for this season it’s over, next year I will put « him » in the aviary and maybe the nature will make things happens … thanks for your time really appreciate your channel and the help you give to everyone

Interesting question. I have had some definite cock birds that would sing to other cock birds but showed zero interest in a hen/s. Normally the hens do most of the incubation but then you said it sings and dances when introduced to a new hen. I will ask our club members if they have experienced something similar. I know in an Avery you sometimes get a communal egg dropping nest. (1 nest with a whole stack of infertile eggs. Normally laid by hens that have not paired up).

Hi Partha Sorry for only getting back to you now. Been off KZread for a few weeks for various reasons. To answer your question the bigger the better but the smallest I would go is 600x450x450mm ideally at least 700x450x450 or bigger.
