It's a shame that you have such little subscribers. Your channel is the most comprehensive information on gouldian finches. I can only assume that it is due to the fact that these birds are not that common of a commercial act as budgies or love birds etc.

Thank you Umaid Hashmi. It is growing daily but the idea has always been to try and help and grow the hobby. You are right that the number of keepers when compared with budgies and canaries is small but who knows one day gouldians may well be just as big. The hobby is growing very nicely if I look at the number of clubs being formed and the shows starting to happening all around the world including places that you never heard of gouldians being kept before.

Thank you for the informative video once again. The yellow rump is a very interesting mutation and I think a few surprizes are locked into this mutation. I think the yellow rump genes has an influence on the nape, back, head and belly too (from what I could gather from my breeding so far) with the possibility that the back colour can develop into 2 colours.

I agree completely the mutation has a lot still to offer.

I think there is a lot of variability in the gene as well which adds to the mystery.

Hi,thanks again for an informative video, I am looking forward to see how your developments go. What size perches do you use please? I have had a couple of birds with bumblefoot so trying to treat, and changing perches over to natural twigs....any ideas on treatment of such ailments would be a great help.

Great topic for the show. In the meantime though I like to mix the per sizes. I go for 8mm 6mm and then either a 10mm or 12mm. Natural perches are the best in terms of foot health.

Is it ok to use burlap as nesting material

Ed in South Africa we call it hessian, so I had to google what you referring to. The canary guys use it so in terms of being safe for the hirds it is not a problem. In terms of gouldians they like to construct a nest so if you referring to the strings/fibre type Hessian (burlap) then it is fine. The cloth type is fine as a liner I guess but they will need other materials to build the actual nest. Hope this answers your question.

Hi Why the gouldian don’t raise their chicks?

The biggest issue is guys breeding immature birds. They as I've shown in the last few episodes then don't do well. The breeders then use society finches to raise the offspring but this then makes the whole problem worse as you raising birds that then can't raise there own young. It becomes a vicious cycle. In SA this is less of a problem but first year birds still give a lot of disappointment. This challenge is part of what attracts some people to keep gouldians as they want a more challenging specie.
