I made this, last night. I am elderly & consider myself a good cook, but I never had a recipe for Goulash. Your Goulash was the BEST I have ever had! I had people staying with us, and we all just loved it! It did make a lot & it would be good for a Church potluck or to take to someone who is not able to cook, etc. It made a LOT & I did not mind at all because I was able to freeze half of it for another day! Thanks so much for your recipe & your good instructions! :)

As a Hungarian, I find this very intriguing! Americans have added lots of twists to the original recipe. I gotta be honest, I was a little scared when you added Italian seasoning and soy sauce, but hey, it looks fine. I will definitely try this. P.S. Try adding a bit of (smoked?) paprika to it! It's the cornerstone of most Hungarian dishes. It will give the entire dish into a beautiful red color.

Tbh, Goulash is more of a regional dish but the variation that came to America was Hungarian hence why it is called Goulash here. However, since it was a regional dish it changed even more because every state in America has their own variation. The variation in Michigan for example uses red beans

That's what I remember! It sounds like it might be middle English or something doesn't it? This seems like what you remember about high-school cafeteria food. I would eat some right now! It seems funny to cook the macaroni in it though. Is that how people have been doing it all along?

This was a favorite comfort food where I grew up in Texas and my relatives also called it goulash. In The Navy I had a buddy whose mother was a Hungarian immigrant who made real goulash which is a Hungarian dish made from beef tips with onion and smoked paprika! My buddies from Pennsylvania and New York called that pasta dish Bergoo and their versions were as delicious as what my Texas relatives made so long ago. Thank goodness for great cooks everywhere!

This dish was also one of my favorites as a kid. My three older siblings and I were raised by our mom and maternal grandparents. We had a huge garden, and we would harvest lots of heirloom and paste tomatoes and make fresh sauce to can in mason jars for the winter. Many times, my grandmother would make goulash with lots of fresh tomatoes cut into chunks and let that cook down with everything. During financially lean times, it would be meatless, but added Parmesan cheese and a tossed salad on the side; don't forget the homemade, crusty Italian bread, too; gotta soak up that sauce from the goulash ... haha! Thanks for taking me down memory lane. I will be making this tonight for my family.

Beefaroni... ;) I know, I know, that's the brand name of the cheap boxed mix or whatever. But, that's what we call this kind of thing. But, yeah, basically the same as American Chop Suey, or American Goulash... At some point, different people call the basically exact same set of ingredients made much the same way by different names. I mean, really, if it's macaroni + tomatoes/sauce + ground meat + like onions / peppers / vegetables / garlic, and some italian spices, it's ... the same dish, regardless what you call it, or minor variations (with / without worchestershire sauce, etc.)...

Made this last night, came very tasty and was kid approved. The only thing I may change is may decrease the amount of water and final cooking time after adding the elbows so they don’t come so soft. Also will try low sodium soy sauce, was still a little to salty for my taste but that’s me. Otherwise all the other ingredients made a very tasty dish. Also be advised the amounts listed make allot of food, so if you’re only feeding say 4, you may be able to cut everything in half.

***** I think you would like it, it seems you and I agree on what is good. Also, when eating it, sour cream and sharp cheddar sprinkled on top. Fresh French bread and a glass of milk with it!!!!!

I tried your version tonight, it has been many years since I have had it, so I gave it a try. The funny part was, the whole time I was cooking it, I could not get that theme music that you play on your vids out of my mind!😂 Had it with some garlic bread, and gave it just a sprinkle of Romano cheese on it. I think I hurt myself, but it hurt so good! Thanks for sharing!

Ahhh.. I always really enjoy these. Not for the video content, entertainment value or the recipe, but rather the opportunity to relish in the wisdom and musings of so many “master chefs” in the comments. Rarely will so many experts gather on one forum and share their expertise. Doesn’t matter if the video portrays professional chefs, who have dedicated their entire life to their art, or simply someone sharing a dish they enjoy making, we will all be warned to NOT be impressed. It’s through the criticism of others, that these keyboard gourmets try to impress us with “their” importance. It’s clear, one need not spend a lifetime honing their skills, in the kitchen. By simply reading the comment section of these videos, one can benefit from the teachings of the TRUE culinary masters who gather here. When they post their wisdom and insight in comments, scribes record every word, so future generations may benefit from their teachings. I for one, am humbled in their presence and thank them all for their guidance. 🙄 With that said, I want to thank you for posting this video, it looks great and I can’t wait to try it !

TheWolfePit - By the way, IF, by some chance, the FDA reads the objections, then performs a chemical analysis of the ingredients you suggest and your recipe, THEN submits it to the Hungarian Consulate for a ruling, AND they determine that the dish isn’t EXACTLY “Goulash”, from an ethnic and legal standards.. I don’t give a s*** ! It looks great anyway and I thank you for sharing ! I guess you could call it “Skillet Goulash-me-Not”, or “Bite Me Bordelaise” in response to the objectors ..hee, hee..😁
