Gott Arriving Under Ominous Skies

The second Duluth arrival of the season for Edwin H Gott! Also the second in interesting weather conditions. Coming in after some rain had moved through, the bright red ship made a striking image against a very dark sky. The 1004ft ship arrived to load iron ore, yet again off schedule (the only way the Gott seems to come here!) due to the Two Harbors facility being occupied at the time. We’re always happy to see her though!

Kinda nice listening to the sights and sounds of everything. Some people like to narrate the whole video. Thanks for the great video.

Sounded off the salute early. Nice looking ship. I always marvel at how quietly some of these ships move through the water.

The view of her, the lighthouse and the fascinating textures and colors of the sky would make an excellent jigsaw puzzle (I can't work more than 150 pieces though!)

Big Red Ed has been doing a steady run down to the Stelco Lake Erie Works steel plant Nanticoke. I need to get down there and watch her come in soon. 😊

I’ve always wondered about Nanticoke. It gets a ton of ship traffic, but when I look at Google Earth, it’s just an industrial site and dock seemingly in the middle of nowhere, so where does all that end up?

@@jonathanellsworth21 The dock is about a mile or more long and it works like the unloading boom on the ships. The ships unload into a hopper then the taconite moves along by conveyor belt to the steel plant on shore. If you zoom in on Google Earth you can see the belt goes under Lakeshore Rd then into the steel plant to another conveyor that piles it. The best place to watch ships dock is from Hoovers Marina restaurant upper patio. The whole area isn't the best for prime viewing but we make it work since it's relatively close to home
