The Battle of Adrianople (9 August 378), sometimes known as the Battle of Hadrianopolis, was fought between an Eastern Roman army led by the Eastern Roman Emperor Valens and Gothic rebels (largely Thervings as well as Greutungs, non-Gothic Alans, and various local rebels) led by Fritigern. The battle took place in the vicinity of Adrianople, in the Roman province of Thracia (modern Edirne in European Turkey).

Thervings not, correctly said is tervingians, from tirfingr or thyrfingr or the divine triad of the goths: teiws, donaws and wo-den or wo-dan, it's not so clear because thyr or Tyr could go for Thor, what it is true is that goths or tervingians are the forerunners of the vikings, there are runic inscriptions in the places occupied by the goths in the today's Russia and Ukraine. Its very curious how history repeats, because vikings covered the same lands occupied by the goths, solely that vikings did it now by sea and the rivers. Goths have mainly two periods: the pre romanized, when them had his own scandinavian original religion, and the romanized period when goths had embraced christianism and still keeps his original language but had lost all his ancient pagan ritual costumes. But there are many things we ignore about the goths because for the romans them simply were barbarians, that's why it's no roman name for ancient Russia, many says it's ruthenia, but that's not true, because european Russia it's far bigger than ruthenia, also goths called themselves as vesi, so in a major part all are names we had put them, also of the romans.

@@ralphquintero3350 The Thervingi Goths shown in this video are the Visigoths (aka Western Goths).
This was the battle that definitively marked the beginning of the end for the Western Roman Empire. I’ve always wondered in the aftermath of the battle, if the Visigoths themselves ever realized the significance of their victory. Great video by the way👍 and I hope you upload more videos featuring historical and non-historical battles for Rome II and Attila!

Theodosius came to terms with the Goths. Stilico settled with the Goths. Even Honorius could easily have solved the problem by awarding Alaric a title and land far away in Pannonia. Adrianople was a crushing defeat, but the events which really did matter happened later.

@@Wolf-FenrirMountains Man's has no idea how instrumental the Romans are to the idea of freedom lol
Seems that Valens commanders lacked discipline and courage . His best troops had courage and apparently fought well , resulting in their annihilation . The days of well led , disciplined Legions were long gone . Archers and cavalry were key in the Gothic victory , but maybe the Roman's defeat was at least as much down to the way they were led .

Most historical evidence points to the legions still being feared and disciplined soldiers in this period. In the real battle, it was clear that the Roman infantry would have held out and defeated the goths had they not been surrounded and killed by the cavalry. It was only after this battle that the Roman army began falling into its death thralls.

@@WarAndHistory.Most likely, Valens was specially removed with the help of the Goths. The generals and elite of the Eastern Roman Empire hated Valens for his honesty and kindness to ordinary people. At the decisive moment of the battle of Andrianople, he was simply abandoned by his own generals and bodyguards. Lost to the Goths, but put their own man, the game of thrones...
I love the proper narration in these type of cinematic videos. Props to your narrator or AI lol at this day and age I can’t tell one from another.
Just stumbled upon your channel, This was very well done. The Western Empire really was a shadow of itself at this point. I practically like how you broken down and explaned the battle. I've Subscribed, looking forward to more!.

Looks like tribesman had over centuries gradually adopted some of the organised tactics of the Roman legions.

In that glorious battle freedom began to be forged in a large part of Europe and Asia, thus the tyranny of the imperial eagle began to crumble forever, a "tide" of warrior poets thirsty for freedom led by Fritigernus won their freedom forever and in 476 AD the World shouted Freedom and it was heard in every corner of the Planet, the Roman Empire had fallen and that was a historical milestone for all eternity, LONG LIVE LIBERTY! ⚔
