Fortunately, goth isn't just a style, but focuses more on your views and appreciation of the music. You don't have to dress like a "typical" goth to be goth. Additionally, there are many types of goth.

Not all of them are but a lot of them sure are. There's more than just one kind of goth. You don't have to wear tradgoth makeup to be goth. It's a music based subculture and fashion is just an optional part, it can be all out or toned down.
