My philosophy is totally different. I ride and drive old stuff. My newest vehicle, purchased 2 months ago, is a 22 year old 1150RT. It replaced a 33 year old ST1100. Just to find out for myself which one is the better tourer. The ST had covered 100K miles and was fine. I buy cheap but do not save a penny on maintenance. On the ST for example I had the timing belt replaced in the spring. I have driven cars over 20 years old all over Europe on business and never had any problems. All my vehicles are maintained probably better than factory spec. There is one risk - if you have a major accident and the vehicle is a write off, you have lost the money you did put in maintenance. Then again I have almost no depreciation and I'm keeping old vehicles on the road. Which is very sustainable.

Good that you are keeping the old machines going. That was my initial intention. If I could afford, I'd have an old mk1 escort, cortina, capri, mini, rover 3litre and some old bikes. So, I understand your philosophy. Thanks for watching and commenting.

My thoughts are the same as yours regarding my older k75 it’s got to the point where things are breaking. So just bought a 1200RT

Yeah, it's a shame we cannot keep them going but the industry doesn't do anything to support the idea. Commercial ways to keep the new ones rolling out of the factories and us spending new money...

Check your gas mileage. My 2009 R1200RT consistently got 56 MPG - city or highway.

Yeah, I was just mentioning what others had recorded on a real-world type site for mpg. I haven't yet had it too long so unsure what mine will do mpg-wise, ta.

It's been a long story. I ended up selling the 1150 at a big loss. In my latest video I say a little about my current bikes... Thanks for asking.

So the R1150RT is now a late april fools joke? Cuz this is a way nicer and smarter way to go. Buying an old beemer is nice; only if you can do everything yourself for cheap. Also for long journeys and peace of mind.. this is just the better route to take.

Yeah. I'd still like to get it in to a great working and looking bike but I fear I'd need to spend at least another £3k to get it there with the paintwork.
