Gori Folding Propeller Installation while in the Water
Today we will be changing our fixed pitch propellers with a set of Gori 2 blade folding propellers. Our 1996 Lagoon 35CCC is getting an Upgrade!
Installing folding props on a catamaran is twice to work but double the payoff. Dragging the fix pitch propellers through the water is a lot of drag. We are looking to almost a one knot increase in light wind sailing speed.
The Lagoon 35 has the Yanmar 2GM20F engines and the new Gori 2 blade folding props are 16.5 diameter with a pitch of 11.
All boats require ongoing maintenance and repairs to keep them in tip top shape and Latitude Adjustment is no exception.

We like the folding props. Has anyone else changed fixed props to folding? What was your experience?

It's been over a year now with the new props. The best feature is single engine motoring speed and light wind sailing.
I'm impressed you did this underwater! Regarding the seizing wire, was it difficult to attach the seizing wire without bringing it outside? I'm guessing the farther the outside wire is from the axis of rotation, the greater the effect on rotational balance.
What size engines 18hp?
Have you found that the new folding props make a difference? Enough to justify the expense?

We love the folding prop while sailing. In light winds we pickup 1 full knot. When sailing fast, it is really nice to not have the shafts spinning. Under power, nothing different than the fixed props. Is it worth the money? I think so...

We just got back from 2 weeks on the boat in the Bahamas. Our light wind sailing speed is faster. Our single engine motoring speed is about a knot faster. 6.2kts on one engine. 7.0 on both. We never run two engines anymore.

About how much are these ?

I think I paid about 1,700 for the set of two. I would do it again as sailing without the drag is big to us. Plus no more spinning shaft!
