Gorgeous desert river filled with trophy trout | No one would expect this here
There aren't many places like it. Where the mountains reach for the sky and the desert drops into an endless rift. The Rio Grande Gorge is one of many iconic geological landmarks here in New Mexico. The layers of earth and rock will tell your eyes the story of this amazing topography. The gorge itself cuts through the land of enchantment for many miles. Each section will offer something different depending on what you are looking to do. My favorite sections are just a stones throw from the mountain town of of Taos. Widely known for its incredible winters sports, Taos has been the staging point for most of my fly fishing adventures on the Rio Grande. I have been far and wide and this section of the Rio Grande has without a doubt been the setting of some of my most wild and memorable days on the water. The essentials in Taos like gas, food, and lodging come in all shapes and sizes. Anything you might need to fit your trip throughout the seasons. Be it a family trip or a hard nosed solo trip, you will be covered. Words hold little weight and video can't capture the full experience. I implore you to see it with your own eyes.

Really appreciate how you give the viewers an idea of where you are - no way that places like this will be "overrun", because very few people will be willing to make that hike. Most fly fishing videos that act like it's a big secret are pretty worthless - unless of course you just want to watch some dude catching fish. Keep up the good work !
Lovely work. Spectacular adventure. Thank you so much for sharing.
You're such a good advocate for northern New Mexico. Thank you.

It is truly an enchanting place! I am so lucky I get to bum around and explore it!
Great video, thanks! Superb dialogue as you were fishing. Beautiful fish of all types. I once lived in New Mexico and wish I had known about the Rio Grande Gorge. Thank you!

pretty sweet
Great video! Reminds me of me and my buddy Dan 25 years ago. We used to hike in from the hatchery at Questa down to where the Red and Rio meet. It’s a haul but damn we caught some big brownies and nice cut bows! I like your discipline and time management too. It’s easy to get caught by sunset and have a dark and dangerous hike out. Makes me want to go back!

Thank you so much Matt!! You have to really start managing your time and energy well when you are down in a place like that! Things can go bad quick!
I hope to see you cash in on the FASADD rig someday. Absolute game changer that impresses every time! Great video once again. Rock Chalk

Nice video, well done. I was on the fence about going to Taos to fly fish but I think your video convinced me to go. I'm heading that way in 3 weeks.

Early Fall is the best time to go! It can be tricky but if you crack into them, it can be amazing!
taos is one of my favorite places to visit... sad I wasn't able to make it out this year

It is so amazing! Hopefully you can make it out that way soon.
Dude you have to come try the trout streams in the Appalachian mountains, grew up in southwest Virginia and could drive less than an hour each direction to a great creek/river.

That would be the next on my list! I really wanna make it out that way!
Time for huevos rancheros and a chicken enchilada...well earned...There are some big trout in NM but, you sometimes need to walk quite the distance...It can be dangerous to do it alone so, be careful..Don’t ignore those walleye and smallmouth at Conchas and Ute lakes....They have some whoppers there...great videos good sir..

Awesome videos bro. We should fish sometime. I work at CRA in Mogote Co. on one of the best fisheries in the SW. Haven't been on the Rio in a few years and was planning a trip after the New year. Anyways, keep up the good work bro! Tom.

Nice bushwack out, the bouldering wasn't enough? Or going bushwack was better then bouldering up or down to a trailhead. 🤣

Just started watching your videos, and I’m loving them man! That last cast and hook set on the last fish you caught was insane 🤯 Also, what kind of reel were you using for this trip?
Sweet! What time of year was this ? Looks beautiful
Question from a new subscriber: What is that at 18:44? Is that a rig ready to go?? That must make switching between rigs so much easier!
@FLYALLSZN
7 ай бұрын
Yes! It is a pre-made leader with a completely new rig.
RIo Hondo access is also full of big trout, it is not a hard walk, drive and park, lots of Rocky Mt Big Horn Sheep and some cute bathers in the hot spring about a 1/3 mile on west side of Rio Grande...only the San Juan below Navajo is better for size, but both place you need best foot wear for mossy rocks. I filmed this on another unbelievable fishery, Rio De Los Pinos, easy walk down the RR tracks down from Osier Co to New Mexico, great for med to large trout! kzread.info/dash/bejne/n2F7ppavmKSZftI.html
Do you always do catch and release or is it dependent on where you fish?

I love to keep a few fish! Just depends on the adventure.
Hi my friend ,have a new suscriptor, where is this location ,thank you
Great Videos Guys! I'm a school teacher and teach an outdoor skills class thats sponsored by our wildlife department. We watch your videos in class as my students get a kick out of watching yall catch trout as do I. I'd like to know what size tubing you use to make those adjustable droppers. I want to try it but never caught what size tubing your using to make them. Thanks
have you ever had problems with hook sets on the adj. hopper? seems like it would slip down the leader material

Bro… getting into fly fishing for trout. I’m a seasoned fisherman but, novice at fly fishing. I’m looking for gear and I’ve boiled it down to a 5wt but, not sure of the length of rod. I’ve seen 5wt from 7’-9’ the waters I’ll be fishing will not be big. What length would you recommend? I’m going to be fishing West Virginia streams. -love your channel btw 👌
