Doesn't matter what season, I'm always on the fly!
I've been lucky enough to bounce around from Midwest, Mountain West, Driftless Region, and the Southwest chasing everything that swims.
I am going to do my best to document the bites I'm chasing and the flies I'm using to make it happen.
No secrets with where I fish and what I use.

Always enjoyed fly fishing these two streams. Did good with a bead head pheasant tail nymph and a Prince nymph. I'd like to try it in the colder season some time. Wondering if you could weave some cord to close up the gaps in that goofy net?
wow! that golden!!!
I know this may seem like not a big deal because these are trout, but managing your line and getting the fish on the reel without the excess is and can be very beneficial for landing fish without distractions. Anyway, what a video, amazing commentary, and enthusiasm for days.this video is awesome
Really wish they would outlaw flies above a certain length on bull trout streams during key times of the year. Its probably the best way to manage them and it seems to me there is plenty of other viable streamer water in the state.
hey man, I'm about to move from Idaho to Iowa to go to college there. I know this is the unwritten rule of fishing, but are there any spots you would recommend for me? thank dude
Do you ever fish from a boat? Do you ever hit the spring branch in the winter for smallies ? Great video, good content.
I know the take away from this video was supposed to be the FASADD, but why did it take until now to figure out that tying on a tippet ring on while it’s still on the spinner latch is a whole lot easier! 15:04
There’s always time for one more fish!
Nice BBBRRRROOOOO 🤘🏻💪🏻🤘🏻💪🏻🤘🏻💪🏻🤘🏻❤❤❤❤❤
I live about an hour and a half away in bigfork and I will say fishing is great in Montana!
Great job! Northern Alberta is a true gem. Not much people know it, you can enjoy the river all by yourself. There were stories about giant grizzlies though, take care!
I just subscribed. Keep these great contents coming.
Am i the only one tripping about his adjustable dry dropper? Please drop a link
Greetings from the Big Sky! I never got to fish back east. Too many big fish in Montana.
If you had any Mepps or Panther Martins those trout would bite. Thomas Cyclone worked for me, too. It's a spoon but so is a daredevil.
No use in tryin to stay dry, you're gonna get wet. I've never even seen a golden trout except in aquariums. I guess you now know why it's called the Wind River Range.
Greetings from the BIG SKY of Montana. This is a place I've only read about. It ain't easy, but the fish should be big. Met with Waylon and his wife in the park with elk antlers.
I was plagued for a good 50 years by the expression "one more cast'. Probably 60 now.
I'd call you bait and let you go.
I hiked all thru Glacier down the Belly river into Banff, bears, wolverines, wolves and rocks. Tough country in there but it sure has fish. We caught over 100 grayling in Glacier Park at Elizabeth Lake and the biggest I saw was maybe 16 inches long.
I'm sure you have been asked this before....but, do you only catch and release or do you (off camera) enjoy a nice trout dinner?
You know when to cull, so do I. When it's time to pitch in, I do. I always threw a 9 weight rod, Fenwick.
Greetings from the BIG SKY of Montana. I fly fished in northern Arizona when my mother moved to Phoenix in 1960. I think it was called Oak Creek Canyon.
That ain't a dog.
Any creek that flows into a river should have trout in it if there's trout in the river..
I've spent a bit of time in the woods of Montana and I'd have to say the the mountain lion is worse than any black/brown bear that I've encountered. You never hear them, but you'll see them and their tracks.
I can tell you ain't from Montana by the dinner you choose. I always had trout as the main course, with a gun you can also have bunny and bird. I would.
I just noticed that last week, and this week, the Game and Fish stocked some YY fingerling Brookies in Rio de Los Pinos, and Placer Creek. I've never fished either of them. However, the interactive map suggests that brookies were never in the main stretch (rainbow and brown) of the Rio de Los Pinos, just its tributaries. Personally, I'd rather see YY Brookies somewhere than a mono-culture of triploid Rainbows. Actually, I'd take any wild fish over stocked fish, and fingerlings stocked in the stream instead of pan-sized. Maybe this will create more diversity, and encourage people to move away from the stocking truck a bit? Placer Creek is reported to have a wild brook trout population, so, I don't know what to think.
Lite colors show the ticks. Making camp takes a while, but it sure is a good thing to do when you have light. Crazy Goof and a Muddler Minnow where flies to get bigger trout with. I always threw an elk hair caddis fly on the East Gallatin. Probably size 8, 10 and 12.
Greetings from the BIG SKY of Montana. The biggest trout I ever caught was in Wolf Creek Canyon on the Missouri River in 1965. A 13 pounder, brown trout.
Dude you were so close to British Columbia, elk river here is 100s miles and beautiful fishing you could easily spent weeks here Fernie BC is huge fly fishing
We always went into the Bob the end of July, the beginning of August. It seemed to be the least probable time for rain. Last 2 weeks of July, first week of August. Many trips. now.
Me, I'd be eatin some of those trout, too.
CM Russell High School, class of 1968. Guess I'm a Montanan. Nice brown trout.
Catching the 'big' trout is always all you gotta do.
That was a nice cutthroat, we call them 'keepers'.
You want to get big trout, use sculpins for bait. It's slow fishing but the fish are big.
When I worked for the forest service I was out of Stevensville with the Lolo district. I got to help plant 25,000 pin trees on St. Mary's mountain. I heard a lightening strike burned it down though.
I guided in the scapegoat, and have camped in that exact spot. Its the kind of place you want people to experience, while not wanting anyone to find out about it. If you spend enough time out there you will become more comfortable.
Im headed to montana sunday. Pretty stoked
Mike, you jave inspired me to stop waiting for a buddy or two to go out on adventures. Usually means I dont end up going... So, off I go out on my own for the next few months. Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, Utah, Arizona and who knows where else. Pretty much just winging it, figuring out where the fish are as I go. Watching your vids helps for many reasons. Your humour especially laughing at yourself is great and very entertaining! Thanks for the adventures!!
Amazing thanks! Spent a lot of years up there but never thought about fishing those grassy fields!!! Maybe I'll get back someday!!!
Lake #1 thumb lake?
Gila has been my favorite place to elk hunt for 20 years. You can find places in that wilderness that seem like no man has ever laid eyes on before. Never fished it though… now I’m curious but no longer live in my home state of New Mexico. 🎉 Oh and it’s pronounced like it is a H in the front not a G. Just a little friendly correction. I know it’s 3 years late but just found the channel. Love the content
I am a NNM native and have fished the places you filmed. Great video and nice fish keep up the Good work!!
Fish the dam lake side next time you will break your PB FOR SURE my biggest out of the dam was 28
Frost stop!!! Best burger on highway 20! And grassy lake road is a good road over the pass!
I let my dog swim in my mangled bits 😂😂
Grassy lake is a good road! I see cars on it regularly. It is like 53 miles but an awesome road! Also good fishing through the pass at the small lakes and streams.
Is not cliche, Thats why I enjoy Fly Fishing. Been humble by the beauty of Nature is priceless in this sport. Fly Fishing is Life!!!
I found this channel recently and have thoroughly enjoyed your storytelling. The imagery, ethics, the fish, the pure enthusiasm and occasional (and realistic) frustrations along the way. Great stuff man, keep it up! Enjoying from Austin, Texas.
