Gorgeous day in Galveston West Bay with a nice surprise catch!!
What a beautiful Fall day it was today in West Galveston Bay!!! Felt like a summer day and the fish were biting, we found a great bite of Sand Trout early with a few Speckled Trout mixed in, then managed a nice keeper redfish at a new spot to end the day!!
Feels great to be on the water and still catching fish.

Texas waters have two different types of trout that look similar, sand trout and gulf trout. ( speckled trout not in this group). Sand and gulf look similar, but are different species that have a different texture as well. Sandy’s are a bit mushy, while gulf trout have a firmer meat. Gulf trout get bigger and have 8-9 anal rays, while sand trout have 11.

The jetties are the easiest place to start and hold fish all year. We have several vids on our HoW to playlist that explains it all really well!!

17' Yellowfin Skiff
we keep good sand trout (sandies). my GF wouldn't dare but my BF and i keep them and pan fry or do a fish fry with them. we try and cook them right away since they do get mushy and don't freeze well. next time we catch some, i'm going to try packing them in salt like we used to do with rainbow trout and see if they keep better.
