This is vintage Lightfoot. I'm surprised it didn't make it to a major album.

Did this classic perhaps inspire "Working Class Hero" by John Lennon? I'd be very cool with that, for Gordy and John are among my absolute favourite song writers!!

@guitarman2214 I heard he's recorded over 500 songs..and I've only got maybe 250 of them on his albums. I even bought the DVD of Harry tracy even though he didn't write it.I'm going to have to search for this album..where did you get this song? Do you have the album..I would pay for a copy of it! LOL

I hear echos of early Dylan here...including a more nasal tone, reminiscent of Dylan's whine.

Echoes of Dylan here for sure. But still a great song.

Dylan was his hero (no pun intended). Lightfoot hadn't hit his stride yet when he recorded this song. It wouldn't be surprising if he was trying to emulate Dylan. This is one of the strongest of 31+ songs that were recorded during this period and released by Warner on two vinyl demonstration discs (one double sided and one single sided). The songs were not officially released and don't appear on any of his albums.

GORDON LIGHTFOOT Cleveland 1965 [no label, 1CD] Live at La Cave, Cleveland, Ohio; May 8, 1965. Very good soundboard? Some hiss. I have it on this Bootleg, it also has "Song of the Groundhog" and " The Auctioneer" worth tracking down for a fan, too bad the intro is skipped for Echoes of Heroes, very touching.
