Gordon Checks Out iFixit's Repair Business Toolkit

Every year iFixit releases "the ultimate iFixit toolkit", containing almost everything someone would need to repair electronics. In this video Gordon goes through the Repair Business Toolkit to see just what's in it and if it's worth the $300 asking price.

If I didn't already own a handful of that stuff I'd certainly be interested. I should go see if they sell the case by itself

With all the duplication, I am on the fence about the value of this toolkit. Seems like they put together a bunch of stuff they sell separately into a nice bag and branded it as the ULTIMATE BUSINESS TOOLKIT. I will wait for a sale on this one before I bite.

The "duplications" or multiples of items, is because someone who is actually doing repairs will use up some of these items, I got the Pro tech kit a while back and my plastic tweezers tips broke, the spudgers are all destroyed (soft plastic to not damage devices, also gets beat up/used up easy, as its designed to), All but one of my blue plastic opening pry tools are chewed up. So having multiples of things is actually a keen business idea, not just them trying to sell you stuff you dont need. Granted, it is all under warranty and all i have to do its take pictures and email them, and they will replace all my damaged tools without question. BUT as a business owner, it takes time to receive these items, and I cannot wait or make a customer wait because I have to wait on a new tool. Its just much more professional to have multiples, Just in case. this isnt a hobbyist focused tool kit, this is professional focused, at someone who is doing multiple devices a day.

The price is really based on the lifetime warranty in that every piece is guaranteed to be replaced if it breaks. no matter how long you've had it. This is why some pieces included are used. The basic toolkit is cool to have but everything else you can get elsewhere for much cheaper price.

Sometimes duplicates are nice. I've broken a few spudgers

7:05 It also allows you to do it Slowly and without a sudden force pulling on the device. It allows you to apply pressure and allow it to do its job as the adhesive begins to separate. Then you can add a tiny bit more pressure/pull and allow it to continue, Slowly and methodically.

Looks like it would be a good deal vs buying each of those separately...which for the most part I've kind of done already 😅

What are you talking about? Sure maybe it's a lot of money but last I checked that LTT screwdriver that you were shilling for by itself costs 70 bucks. As for the duplication, you can't tell me the spudgers, guitar picks, tweezers, and other small plastic tools aren't going to get damaged or lost over time. I would rather have a half dozen extra of those things in my kit rather than not when I needed them.

I probably wouldn't buy this set, as I already have the Pro and the Manta Kits. The Pro and the Manta kits have come in very handy for opening laptops in my previous I.T. job and in my personal life. I know there are some that will criticize the price of these sets, but as someone who has had cheap sets, these really do feel high quality. I've used the guitar picks to shuck hard drives from the WD Elements external enclosures to put in my NAS and NAS expansion bay.

I feel like the repeats are useful, some of that stuff I'm gonna break or lose instantly, means I won't have to buy a new one for that much longer. And it's largely cheap stuff that probably doesn't add a whole lot to the price, wrist straps and tweezers oh no it might all add up to like $20 ;)

I was thinking of putting together a portable kit like this for myself. May end up getting one of these instead, but if not it's at least a good reference of tools to have for mobile device repair, minus redundant tools (though some tools it isn't bad to have a backup).

Bundling usually takes place when sales are down across the board and they want to move stagnant inventory. I will not elaborate.

Somewhat bizarre decision to include a T3 and T5 screwdriver and no T4 despite the fact T4 is the most common type on newer MacBooks.
