Thanks for suggesting the external battery pack, I've been running an extension cord from the house to the camera in the back yard to a 2.5 amp powerstrip and then the usb cable to the camera. It's worked so far, but I want to be more mobile and I think this power pack is gonna do it. Thanks!

Thank you for this video. I am planning a vacation to Vegas at the very end of August and driving up to Tonopah to film the night sky and the following day off to Reno. I can't tell you how much I appreciate how very informative this video is for someone who has never attempted this before. Now I know what camera, how to use it effectively once I purchase it and of course accessories. I have some shopping to do!

Never tried night lapse before. Adjusted my settings to what you suggested in this video. Should be epic with the northern lights tonight here in Montana.

Awesome video. I'm planning on doing a time lapse of the solar eclipse next week with GoPro Hero 11 Black. The duration of Eclipse is 2 hours and 37 minutes and totality is 4 minutes 15 seconds. Might shave duration down to 1 hour as capturing totality is the main focus. Would you recommend shooting this in night lapse or standard time lapse mode? What interval would you set it at? Any recommendations on settings to best capture this event would be greatly appreciated.

At 2 min intervals, to get 30 second clips, how long are you running the camera in night lapse for? Is that a sunset to sunrise shot? This is a great tutorial, I plan to use this setting and your tips while camping next weekend.

it seems so, imagine that every 2 minutes, a frame is shot. Since the usual frame rate is 24fps, it means about 48 minutes for a second. From sunset to sunrise you'll get about 10 seconds of footage. Let me know if I got something wrong here.

@@rareskqx You nailed the math! With these settings, I got exactly 10 seconds of video from a dusk to dawn night lapse. Kinda disappointing, actually, since I wanted a longer video. I'm currently shooting a night lapse with the interval set to "auto." That should produce many more frames, and therefore a longer video.

I just got my first Gopro 12. I got it for motorcycle endurance racing (dirt/mud). These races take about 2 hours. Many of the racers have had problems with their cameras overheating in the Florida heat. The fix is to get an open battery door and use an external battery. This has me concerned about mud and rain entering the battery compartment. It seems as though the media mod might be the answer. Can you use the media mod to remove the on-board battery in favor of external battery? Does the Media Mod have any adverse effect on camera overheating?

@@GearFocus Tell me about it. Seen a few tutorials that talk crap, or go off piste or don't explain reasons why etc. Your like me, press this, shoot that. Easy. Love the gopro. Did a time-lapse myself other day. Feel free to check it out and critique. Mounted camera on the new telesin rechargeable battery selfie stick. Very handy. Thanks.

Okay. I learned absolutely...nothing. Just how is it that self-proclaimed "Pros," are using a GoPro, to get these magnificent views of the solar system? When I try this, all I get is a bunch of fuzzy blueish dots. Seems not to be the camera, but the fancy(expensive) photo-editing software, that makes most of these GoPro timelapse videos.

Its more about trial and error. That and needing a good dark spot. U need to try alot with shutter speed and iso.. or just set it to auto and hope for the best. My first looks allright but I had no good tripot so was stuck with a metal pole sticking out and using whats there.
