GoPro Hero10 Horizon Level Glitch

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this video I show the issue I'm having with the brand-new GoPro Hero 10 when trying to use Horizon Leveling. I'll show when it happens and what my work-around is.

Hi. Great. The Linear+Horizon Leveling setting on my GoPro 9 says it's supposed to help with level horizons. That must have been why it was working before I restored the defaults. So, I'll definitely try it tomorrow. Good stuff.

Hello, thank you for this video. I can see, at 03:37 for example, that horizon is not so well leveled. You got like 10° to the right from the vertical. And you can see this angle is kept for a while before camera is well leveled again. This is what I experienced on my GP9, and what makes me correcting the rotation when composing the video on the computer.

For what I want to use this for the problem would defeat the purpose. Thanks for sharing! Helped me avoid getting sucked into another gopro purchase.

Keep in mind that I only experienced this at that highest resolution and frame-rate. It doesn't happen at any other settings I've tried. I basically stick with 4K now. Or, if I need the 5.3K I'll mount it to my helmet where it doesn't show the issue, etc. I mean other than this - the camera is exceptionally good.

@@JakeHicks111 Haha sorry about that. One thing though - if you do end up getting one, pop for the updated batteries for sure. I rode up to Julian and it really wasn't that cold - but the GoPro kept shutting off saying low battery. When I got back home and they warmed up, it showed 45% left. I heard the new (like white cap) ones are way better in colder temps.

@@twowheelsandathrottle I am mostly looking into this for street photography videos with the camera mounted on the hot shoe to keep it horizontal when I switch back and forth between portrait to landscape shooting. That jump it was doing on the turns really concerns me, since I will mostly be doing quick 90 degree turns constantly.

@@JakeHicks111 I get ya - again though, I only saw this at the highest resolution at 60fps. Every other resolution (4K, etc.) has had no issues. Also, the glitch happened only when mounted on my front fender. When I mounted the camera even at that highest resolution and frame-rate, on my helmet - it was gone. Maybe see if you can rent one or maybe borrow one if you can find a friend that has one - so you can really check it out for your situation. I'm not sure if a place like Lens Rentals rents GoPros or not.

Thanks - yeah, I actually like the "wide" mode, but since there's no auto-level in that mode, unless I have the GP level to start with, I have to do a lot of leveling in post. I'll most likely slap on the lens-mod when it's available. I use that for my Hero 9 and I really like it.

The gopro 9 has a horizon lock function that records at 1080p at 60fps ... Question ... And the gopro 10 also reaches up to 60fps or already went up to 120fps in that function?

I'm not sure if I understand the question fully - but I checked and Linear with Horizon Leveling is available all the way up to 240fps in not only 1080p but 2.7K as well.

Hi, may I ask you a question? Is there horizon levelling available with the Hero 10 without Max Lens Mod and even in the Photo Mode ?

Hello - the Horizon Leveling is available in video (using Linear + HL mode) and that is without the Max Lens Mod (which I don't have for the 10). However, in photo mode, I had to grab it and see and I don't see any leveling available. But I'm not super-experienced or knowledgable about the photo modes on GoPros since I rarely use them for photos.

I'm sure someone has mentioned this before. The lense that comes with the GoPro hero 10 will do Linear+Horizon Leveling up to about 45 degrees. This is why you see the jumping around. If you get the Max Lense Mod by GoPro you'll be able to do the full 360 degrees like you're looking for. If you set the phone to the settings you had problems with and just turn the phone around in your hand like you're turning on your bike, you'll see it lock in and once you turn enough, bounce out of the horizon leveling mode.

I can't get my GoPro 10 with the Lens Mod to do horizon leveling over about 45 degrees. I tried a bunch of resolutions and frame rates. Are we sure you can get 360 rotation with a GoPro 10?

Hi, I have the same problem, check my videos, gopro is saying that is normal but my camera wasn't doing that before. Did you solve it? I told the that I want a replacement and they won't do it

  • @twowheelsandathrottle

    @twowheelsandathrottle

    2 жыл бұрын

I've only solved it by not using 5.3K at 60fps (basically not using the max resolution and speed). I recently had a buddy look while I went around one of the corners on the road in my video and he told me I am actually leaning pretty far down so I am most likely going beyond the stated limit for the GoPro at that resolution. So, to solve I use 4K mostly unless I know I'll be mounting it in a way the lean won't be as much. But really I mostly just use 4K anyway - and I haven't had any issues at all at that resolution.

I really thinking you are asking to much at 5k 60fps. That Gopro is shaking and vibrating as much as my old 97 diesel pickup truck. I fly race drones and ride ebikes and vibrations is a killer to sensors and electronics. Try dampening it while on the bike or strap it to yourself. Motorbikes kill smartphones cameras just having it mounted for GPS. If you are not into electric motorcycle then I suggest get into that for smoother and faster rides.

In my latest video I tested using the latest (early Nov) firmware. Seems to have smoothed it out a little but not fixed. But honestly, I don't really mind - I just use 4K whenever I want to do Linear with Horizon Leveling. Plus, they said the fix would be in a mid-Nov firmware - maybe they put out the early Nov. just specifically to add the new modes and address some of the heating issues. The glitch I saw might be postponed for another update.
