These cameras turned out to be garbage, my first Go Pro Hero 7 Black only lasted a year and 3 months before it went completely crazy since the last firmware updates, was never dropped or had any water getting inside, started freezing, glitching, draining battery when being off, front display died, I tried every single fix and GoPro support couldn't do anything about it...BEWARE!! 🔊🔊🔊

Every new GoPro released makes my choice of staying with the hero 4 or 5 black, that much easier. Never have I had a freeze or glitch with them like I have when I get a new one. Thanks for the honest review!!!

Well, I bought the hero4 when it was released. Went on vacation, shot some videos there. The video was so shaky it was almost unusable. I did nothing special, just walked around with it, gf was using it when I was driving, etc.. As one could imagine it was even worse when I put it on my chest mount and went downhill on my mtb. I don't want to have any additional HW on me for image stabilization nor do I want to spend hours editing videos. So I put hero4 into drawer and forgot about it. Now I bought the hero9. I already experienced some of the glitches described in the video. But some of them could be resolved in SW so I don't care too much. What I love about the camera is the image stabilization. I just want to take it out and shoot some video. Mount it on my bike and go. And then just share the video without too much editing. I still need to test it on my bike, but so far I'm pleased with the results.

@@matoatlantis but the shaking adds to the action, they should add a mode called action mode thats makes the video shake even more. For the immersion.

@@coopercooper58 Well, there was really no action going on when I was walking down the beach. :) And that shaking was unbearable. I don't mind having an extra feature to add shaking though. Just let it record smoothly.

I don't understand why they can improve so many things, but it glitches all the time. I'd buy it with 20% less gimble-ness for ZERO glitches/freezing. I just don't get how they can be on #9. My original GoPro (the first one they ever made) never glitches.

Wow, thank you for pointing out the gopro bundle/subscription! I was considering going that route, but that seems sketchy.

Or perhaps somebody came on his back and because it was not a Hero 9 with dual Camera's he had NFI who it was...

Was the glitching and freezing mainly on the higher res shooting modes or was it bad in every mode?? my 7 black is pretty glitchy in 2.7k and ive ever even tried 4k

I appreciate that! I'm hoping for a firmware update soon.. not holding my breath though... if this is all caused due to a cheap/slow/old chip inside, I'm not sure what the fix is...

Love the montage of the glitches! I always thought I was the only one every go pro I’ve had has done that made me miss quite a few good shots. You’d think for what they charge and advertise they have that fixed now in there newer cameras! Glad I watched this video I was just about to buy the 9 and if it’s still glitching I’ll save my money and get something else haha

Gopro should start doing firmware as their first priority, I’m going to be using this gopro as a stabilizer with my older cameras.

Thanks for review, it really helps to provide honest and unbiased info. The freezing issue really unacceptable. Regardless how strong the function it end up with zero when it freeze. I'll wait for hero x.

Perfect hero 9 video out there! Can't believe it freezes that much in 5k and not one video out there showing this other than yours. I made a quick cons and pro video too on the 9. Hypersmooth in 9 is exactly same as 8 expect for horizon level in linear rest is all same. Lastly because of the new design all accessories are another hole in the pocket 👍

It's that unreliability that kills it, never knowing if you're going to lose footage. Let's go Sony X4000 and DJI! :)

I had a DJI Osmo Action, but it is impossible to set the sharpness...In my opinion it is too low...The photos and videos appear a little bit blurry...I think I'll buy a gopro 8 because I saw a better image quality respect the 9.

My GoPro hero froze maybe 2 times in 4 years that I used it. My hero 6 used to freeze all the time till finally the firmware upgrade fixed it. I feel buying a Hero 6 black is still a better option.

As always, nice review from YT's best. I think the freezing issue is related to an individual camera. Still major problems with my GP7, but absolutely no probs on the GP9.

You can upgrade from Hero 8 to Hero 9 if you glue a little mirror on the front of the hero 8. It really works - you can find stick-on mirrors in the automotive dept because some people wan to add a small blind-spot mirror to their car. you can also get them at michaels.

I’m having issues with smooth playback when playing videos from sd cards even though it’s a capable card.

First un-sponsored video. Great job! The camera freezing problem was in the 7B, 8B and now 9B. Ben, maybe it's not the fault of GP1 chip (GP1 was also in Hero 6) but hypersmooth stabilization?

Fantastic video Ben. Very informative. I'm with you.... GoPro needs to bump up the processor. It's long over due. I went ahead and upgraded my cameras to the 9. That hindsight feature is probably going to help me immensely with my summertime overheating issues. I already had the subscription (I buy lots of accessories) so GP have me an instant $100 discount per camera. Ended up with pretty substantial savings. Thank you for sharing.

Great review, spot on with sketchy marketing gimmicks along with constant freezing issues. That’s why I own two of them I bought years ago and never upgraded. Bummer that they still have these problems.

I think I will wait and see if they can fix some of the issues with firmware updates. Thanks for the honest review. I have watched several videos over the last week and didn’t hear anything about the freezing issue.

Thank you for another excellent review! Thinking of upgrading from my Hero 7 black, but still on the fence. Horizon Leveling may be the feature I’m looking for.

*GoPro:* has had 10+ years to create an outstanding action camera but ends up failing all of the hypes. *Dji:* Has created a single action camera that is miles more worth the money (although I personally own the Akaso V50X).

I really don't have a problem with putting it in the waterproof case and that slow motion might not be as good as something like a gopro. The Akaso V50X is not only the best budget action camera from Akaso, I think it's the best overall. And you helped me make that decision!

I o most change my macbook pro, thinking was slow to see the 4K videos from my HERO9, and yeah.. is my first time, let see, let see... Also, Thanks for your reviews, I learn a lot everytime!

I've honestly never had any problems with my GoPro Hero 8, except freezing a few times, and I love the 8. I think I'm going to skip the 9 and go for the 10 next year. Hopefully GoPro will upgrade that chip and we'll have less freezing, and I would definitely like to see a better touch screen. Great review Ben!

Ben, I guess that your honesty will not make as many people use the affiliate links and it's sad but please continue this way. I'm sure many many more people like me will subscribe to your channel and in the end if they trust you they will continue watching your videos. I'm sure that this is your strategy. 100% agreed. Love my 8 (except the overheating after 30 minutes of 4k60 with a foam windslayer on during the summer, but it is passive cooling right?) incremental "upgrade" at best, considering you can preview video on your phone while recording on the 8 anyways. The hero 10 needs a bigger sensor (and better internals as you mentioned) to include a true night mode, that would be revolutionary! Great job as always.

Just as glitchy as Hero 8. No thanks, I will stick to my Hero 7 and seriously considering the Insta360.

Hero 8 works fine now after all the updates and is in my opinion much better than H7. Regretting so much that i sold it for the Hero 9.

Henrik Hammaren you can purchase the hero 8 bundle at costco for a very decent price. I was waiting to see a couple reviews before I purchased the newest version, but I think I’ll opt out now.

Needs more processing power. I always felt the system response time was always sluggish (swiping, touch controls, basic menu functions, etc). Easy pass for me.

Yo!!! Thanks for being honest in your review (subbing for that). Others who review act like they don't know about the issues and bad track record with gopros. But I give GoPro mad props for knowing how to market and sell a product that sucks. QUESTION... is there an action camera out there that doesn't have all the glitches and issues gopros have? PLEASE let me know.

Yeah my GoPro Hero 7 Black also freezes quite often, even though it is rarely used. But I still love it as it is so convenient in other aspects.

You can hold down the power button to hard reset it , clears all glitches ( works on 7 &8 ) im sure 9 too :)

Very nice and honest review. I always like your honest review so for us as the buyer can see the real plus and minus of this camera. And after see the glitches and freeze in Hero 9, glad I'm stick with my Hero 7 Black.

Me too. I didn't see that fine print! I could have bought it at the store for $40 more. I'm so worried this is going to cost me $210 AUD or more as they list the camera as $699 retail down to $489 and I bought a couple of mounts at reduced prices too. 😰

I think that GoPro fixed alot of the things people didn't like about the Hero 8. Next year, they will fix the major issues with this year's.

seriously Great review I always look forward to your input. No one would help me answer the questions about the subscription service and I have the same questions as you! Does it mean we have to be in a subscription for that whole year then automatically get charged for next year to get the $299 price tag? WTF go pro? why be so sketchy?

$349 in USA with a free one-year subscription that gives you big discounts on GoPro accessories, including extra batteries and the mods (30% off). What exactly is not to like? Yes, the offer was confusing, mostly because it seemed too good to be true: if you do not subscribe you pay $100 more than if you take the FREE subscription giving discounts. No one should pay in the USA $449 for the camera.

The marketing people getting in the way of creating a good product... So much energy put into hyping but the actual product is not delivering ...

Hero 7 all the way man!! I just love that it has slight hyper smooth which is perfect and you still get that action feel!!
