On the side of your go pro theres another button, if you hold it down for about 3 seconds it will turn your wifi on with out having to go through the settings. You can do this before turning on ur go pro and actually turn it on through your phone, aswell as change go pro settings through your phone. Just an easier tip for you.

If you already own an iPhone, this is a great inexpensive way to control the GoPro remotely as well as have a visual display without spending over $150 for a GoPro remote and a LCD touch BacPac. one note: The first time I used it I didn't realize the camera was picking up my phone's volume, so my videos had latent echo. Turn your volume down on your phone first (as he mentioned).

You can, but keep in mind that with the casing on you can hardly hear the beeps so it helps to keep them loud until you get a better feel for using the device

Thank you, this was proving to be a right pain in the bum! It seems they have got rid of the phone and tablet bit in the latest's firmware are replaced with gopro app, all works now though.

That was really helpful. I was struggling ... now my Silver GoPro is all connected up.

To connect the app to the go pro do you need to use any 3G or wifi first before you connect to the go pros wifi option?

Do I have to update my gopro to do this? Unboxed a while ago, i have the gopro hero 3 silver but it doesn't show "phone and tablet"

yes Go to gopro.com/en/us/support/product-update/register-camera to update the firmware.

i can't use the remot couse i change the pass word . how i can make it work again

I would recommend using 24fps if you're just shooting any regular stuff, switch to 30fps if you are recording sports, anything that's moving fast.

As you’re recording can you see what you’re recording on the hero three?? Found one at a garage sale for 20 bucks thought what the heck haggled it down to 10. I have not messed with it

So you can't really you wifi out doors due to no wifi connections, am I right? It would only work, indoors with wifi or an external wifi device right? I'm looking at the silver 3rd edition gopro but may have to get the 4/black for Bluetooth so I can connect to Ipone when outdoors. What's your advise on this bro? Thanks

Jujag Themag I don't own a gopro but you should be able to use the wifi from your phone using tethering/mobile hotspot. The thing is, I don't know if the phone you have will let you both tether and run an app that streams to the device (multitask) In which case you can use a Verizon/tmobile/att jetpack which is a mobile hotspot. They cost around $40 but that gets expensive so look at a phone. Either way a 4 second delay is still garbage technology and that was on this guys home wifi, outdoors it would be way worse.

Isn't it easier to use the touchscreen on the back? Every single video focuses on the tiny little one on the front which may be quite clear in the making of the video, but is bloody difficult to see reality. I find it so much easier using the touchscreen on the back. By the way, I'm assuming that you are now on a hero 4? How long does your battery last with the Wi-Fi switched on but the camera switched off?

Was this done after the update? I just bought and do not have the "tablet/phone" option. Have yet to update because I just unboxed it.

The easiest way to get a network and password is to do the update. It will ask you what you want to call it and a password. Make sure you name the network something other than your local network! What you are giving the GoPro is an SSID.

If you follow the instruction and navigate to the GoPro website you will fnd that the default password is "goprohero". Set that in you iPhone/iPad wifi settings and open the gopro app. Should work fine then.

wait one minute... if you are using your iphone to demonstrate this and you are using the hero on your desk, then what are you using to film this video? Did I just blow my own mind? :) Seriously, great vid. I didn't even know you could do that. Good stuff.

Can you play back video on your phone? I was considering getting this camera and putting it in my car to record in case there was an accident and it'd be great if I could play it back on my phone to show the officer that shows up if the other person tries to lie.

This would be good for doing settings on your phone instead of cycling through all those settings with that 1 button.

we use PAL in the UK not NTSC! just a heads up . PAL is 25 fps and NTSC is basically 30 (29.97) so having it on PAL will probably save memory as well =]

i just bought the camera today and downloaded the app. so everything is uptodate. but when i am recording a video, i can't see the preview. as soon as i start video, preview stops. when i am not recording, the preview works perfectly fine. i did relaunch the app a few times, but it didn't help. i hope you can help.

i suspect the lag between the video and app display would decrease if the video quality/frame rate was reduced.

WIFI RC. Go to settings on your phone, and the pasword is goprohero. Then your phone is connected to your camera

Does anyone know how to get the view finder part working?? Every once in a blue moon I will be able use my phone as a view finder.. but 99% of the time its a blank screen... I can record and do everything else, including watching the video I just recorded.. but the view finder part doent work?? any tips?
