GoPro Hero 12 why shoot in 4:3 with Max Lens Mod 2.0? 4K

The Max Lens Mod 2.0 brings incredible FOV and stabilization to the GoPro Hero 12 Black. It is limited to just three aspect ratios available:
16:9 - Best for cinematic video clips
9:16 - Best for vertical video clips
4:3 - Best for... what?
In this video I explain why GoPro didn't lose the plot when offering the 4:3 ratio with the Max Lens Mod 2.0
If you see some lens flair on this video (you will) I found after the run that there was a finger print on the MLM2.0, a good example to keep your lenses squeaky clean even on an action camera

Just what I needed to see as I do my filming in 16:9 for my KZread video's but then I want to share a few clips on my Instagram stories or reels in 9:16. So Max Lens Mod 2.0 now getting ordered and shooting in 4:3. Thanks

Great video! Finally somebody talks about the 4:3 on max lens mod 2.0 !!! Question: What are the frame rates available if I stick to 2.7K with MLM2.0? Can I push it above 60fps now? Thanks!

You can get 60fps at 4K with MLM2.0 and the Hero 12. If you want to go above 60fps you are limited (in the current firmware) to 1080

A 4:3 ratio is not using the full sensor that you can get with the GoPro 8:7 ratio. This is filmed with the Max Lens Mod 2.0 which brings insane stability and horizon leveling in camera. It does this with a combination of software and cropping the sensor, to smooth out the movement. For this reason the full 8:7 sensor ratio is not available with the Max Lens Mod 2.0. From a ratio perspective rather than a full-use-of-the-sensor position, this is why I see 4:3 as being very similar to 8:7. Off of the clips in this video were shot using the standard microphone settings, I am hearing a clearer sound when filming vertical 9:16, there were no changes made, just selecting a different aspect ratio. Do you hear it too? Interested in your view!

I dont understand why 8:7 is not possible in 4K60 with the max lens mod 2.0, i mean i can choose Max Hyperview in 16:9 this should be equivalent to 8:7, 8:7 with the max lens mod 2.0 would be really amazing because of reelsteady and gyroflow.

It's because (a) the larger sensor headspace on the 8:7 is needed for the stabilization or (b) lack of processing power to use 8:7 at the same time as MLM2.0 or perhaps (c) Marketing. I am disappointed that LOG is not available with MLM2.0 but I suspect that is also a marketing choice... something they bring to a later firmware update.
