Just got the 10 for $450, butttt its so hot n battery life is sooooo bad. Im seeing what the 9 is like n maybe ill return the 10 n save some cash on the hero9. I got max mod lens to, spoiler, is still not working with the 10 ahhhh Its winter so im in no rush

I prefer the Gopro 9, for one important reason that reviewers often don't test. The noise floor on the Gopro 10 is considerably louder than the Gopro 9.

I’d avoid the GP8 for one major reason: the fixed lens. If you scratch that lens, you’re sending in the whole camera to get it replaced.

I have been using the 8 for most of the videos on my channel and you can see it has been through some crazy stuff but never damaged the lens. I have the stick on lens protector and the roll cage over that. I love the audio and stability on the 8. The low light seems to be better than my friends 10 for some reason but could be due to the settings he used. I recently purchased the windslayer and it almost completely removes any wind issues I had with the audio. I typically record from lav mic to external recorder but for running or action shots it's all internal from the 8.

I just purchased a GoPro Hero 8 black and I am seriously loving it so far! I can’t wait to video one of my granddaughters basketball games! Thanks for the video, helps a lot! But I do have a lot to learn! What do you recommend about learning how to work the preference section of the camera, changing settings and such?

I’ve got the Hero 9 recently. I’ve been happy with it. I use it to shoot first person fishing and outdoors stuff. I mix in video with my iPhone too. I’ve had some issues with the battery needing to be pulled out and put back in every now and then cause it won’t turn on. I’ve not had a GoPro before so I don’t have any way to compare it. It can get hot when charging and you need to be sure not to overcharge the battery or it will kill the battery. I’ll be testing time lapses soon, overall I’m happy with it!

@SmilingPit I haven't experienced any lost footage at all. The touch screen isn't 100% responsive actually but it isn't a deal breaker at all in my experience, it works fine. I also did multiple shoots on the lake just recently in 95+ degree, full sun weather and it ran proper the whole time. The main thing that is a problem for me is like I mentioned before, having to pull the battery in and out to turn it on and to make sure its shut down if I am using an alternate power source to help battery life. Still happy with the unit overall.

Great video I went from the 7 to the 10 …still have both of them. But the 10 is an improvement overall. Although I think 5k is kinda unnecessary nice but most people can’t tell the difference

Right, there is more detail and sharpness when exporting to 4k, versus just shooting in 4k. But the difference is small there!

The GoPro audio sounded pretty darn good. Great video!

For me the image quality is most important. The 9 is in all comparing videos I have seen less sharp than the 8 and the 10. Clearly noticeable even after YT compression and viewing in 720p. How you can not notice this and state that the 9 and 10 are the same? Look at all the greens in the background, 9 is blurry. 8 and 10 are not.

I am thinking about buying one, and your video is the second I've watched. The first video was by a channel called Leonardmlee who said "I've been using Gopro cameras to film my ride vlogs for about ten years now and as much as I love them, and for all their positive points, they have been, without exception, the most unreliable cameras I have EVER used. " He talked about how they often freeze and go into a weird split screen thing. I was wondering if you had experienced anything like that.

I ski-"cold" and I film in salt water-"wet". My issues, the microphone does not drain so the sound is muffled. Also, the screen can retain water blurring an entire video. This is a Hero 8 I'm discussing, and I've been using these since 2.0. OK, the camera is not perfect but improving. What do we do when shooting to make sure our shots come out like we want? Do we shake the camera to clear the microphone and rub the lens against our suit or what? Spit does not work here. Some really great shots at the beach are sunsets in the water keeping the camera at water level and letting the waves go over the camera and then clear-if it clears, but the sound of waves gets muffled. For skiing at Tahoe this year the camera battery froze. I thought it was recording some amazing blizzard shots while skiing but when I looked at the replay nothing was there. I remember the camera being locked up, nothing worked-so sad. So, how about the water filming-take the cameras to a pool and test them for lens clearing and mic clearing. Not sure about the cold weather but I hate relying on ruggedness and being disappointed.

I bought the Hero 8 when it was released. It's been my main camera for KZread ever since. It takes great videos, and the Hypersmooth is definitely a great feature that works superbly. I had no idea the Hero 9+ actually came out with a front facing LCD screen though... I missed out BIG TIME with that haha. My biggest gripe with the Hero 8 was the lack of a front-facing screen. I'm glad GoPro has since addressed this issue and that new GoPros come fully equipped. Gone are the days of GoPro being purely an Action Cam! Vloggers and content creators alike, rejoice!

Just such a shame, that the GoPro Hero 10 Black doesn't look good in 4k 60fps when doing mountainbiking. Getting a lot of grain and noise. But looking forward to the 5,3k in superview.

I wish you did audio test for the 8.

Awesome video Nolan! Although this is a "me" thing, I found it was A LOT of information, but I'm someone who wants one but doesn't actually know anything about them, never used one, haven't spent much time researching them etc... wanted one for vacations, swimming at the cottage, any outdoor activities, shopping vlogs because it's small, etc etc etc I would most certainly need to watch this video again to review and fully understand the information, again that's a "me" thing based on my knowledge base, or lack of lol. I wouldn't mind seeing some more gopro specific videos in the future, including some simplified ones geared to someone who has never used one, beginners, or someone considering purchasing one... For example, you mentioned "subscription"... what is that? Is that a requirement for using a gopro? How much does that cost? Or is that simply an extended service thing? Stuff like that that noobs wouldn't know (or maybe I'm... Hello, Which gopro can you recommend me better the 8 or the 10 version? I have never used before and this would be my first buying. I would use only on holiday / trips but not constantly. I would like to use only in 4 K.. I read so many positive and negative comments so I am uncertain about decision.

So I appreciate this video because my 6 finally took a shit on me yesterday and I’m in the market. Curious: why do channels like yours completely skip 2.7k. You go from 4K to 1080 as if those are the only 2 options. Remember a lot of us are smaller and will be assigned the garbage codec at 1080. 2.7k is a way better option for us to force the good codec. It’s battery and storage efficient.

For sure, I made sure to shoot in 240fps in 2.7k on the HERO10 vs 240fps 1080 on the HERO9. It's a bit sharper on the 10 with the extra resolution.

I dont see information about night-time image quality.. I'm looking for a gopro to use as a streaming device (RTMP stream) and both daytime and nighttime quality is important. Will most likely be plugged into power source most of the time (Car and truck streaming).. I want it connect to wifi and stream directly from the camera. Mediamod is available for all of them to get HDMI later, so not that worried about that right now. What do you recommend?

Which one is the most reliable? By that I mean which one doesnt overheat and just straight up freeze? Apparently,even the new ones are plagued with those issues. Edit: Im asking bcs I live somewhere where it's damn HOT throughout the year. Like Im talking 40+ degrees celsius...

I've had no overheating issues and I believe the new firmware update fixed this for some of the people who did have overheating when shooting for a super long time at 5.3k 60fps. And yes, with out a case, it is waterproof!

Hi Nolan, I don't have any Gopro or any other action camera. I want to buy one. But stuck between Hero 10, 9 and 8. Since the H10 is latest model but also the most expensive one. H8 is the cheapest but also 2 years old. H9 has some lagging issue and less low light capabilities. But also have some advantages like Horizon levelling, changeble lens, bigger battery and also priced between H10 and H8. So I am totally confused between these 3 models. Please help me out as a new buyer which one should I purchase ?

yes they are waterproof straight out of the box

I've done so many of these GoPro comparisons, I will always tell them to get the 8 because the batteries from the 7 will work fine, both the 9&10 tend too overheat if shooting prolong videos and if you're not going to be shooting SPECIFICALLY in 5K then you better make sure you have a GPU otherwise your integrated GPU won't look different then the Hero8 so My advice would be to get the Hero8.

I bought the 8 on release month. Love the camera. I use mostly my S21 for vlogging.

I’m looking for a go pro that can record for the longest lengths of time. 12 hour days and such. Any suggestions to those commenting? External battery pack?

About thath noise in sky...the problem is in the resolution...the 4K is completely noise free in comparsion to 5.3K resolution. I did not test the ISO yet to much but 4K is completely OK and without noise.

Which one would be good if you ride your scooter and record outside

The low light quality has continued to get worse with each model. I’ve stopped buying GoPro since the Hero 8. (I’ve bought the 9 and 10, tested them and returned them) very disappointing.

If your buying any action camera for low light performance surely that’s not really a choice to make...? They need to increase the size of the sensor and they users will complain the camera is getting too big to be an action cam...

@@4scottishdogs - you do realize action takes place in lowlight? Under bridges. In the evening. The Hero 7 was far better than the 10 when it came to video appearance and low light shots. They have continued to get worse.

Action cameras are not made for night filiming. Sports cars are not made for off road use. I am not sure why people keep complaining about a product that is not made for that use
