What a save at 8:00-he nearly lost it,but it can happen when you're in maximum attack mode. That car is just mental.

@@HillClimbFans I just love hillclimb-it’s my favorite motorsport.
I was there! I was the guy taking a photo on one knee at 5:03 last one on the left. Wearing my Oklahoma hoodie and jeans. Did everyone know that when he reached the top his car basically died? The engine barely made it there
8:03 What a moment. He went from outside to inside. Almost crash... so close.
I feel like the older I get the worse driver I am; or I have more of a sense of death? I cant decide!
my 4 year okd daughter didnt take her eyes away once watching this, future racer lol

10 minutes broken!!!! Congratulations Tajima! You drove to perfection and took the glory and honor for Japan. You gave your countryman something to be proud of in the wake of the recent tragedy. Well done! Glenn Cox, Lucky 13, 1205 Pro
This video is AMAZING in 1080p, full screen on a 27" iMac!!! MOVIE EXPERIENCE!

Awesome! A far cry from listening to the hemi Mopars coming up the mountain back in the mid-60's.
this is about the 8th tiem I've watched this..my favorite motor racing event and no one is better here than the Monster
To think, they got the engine for this car out of a Vitara 4wd.

My body has never been as tense as it was whilst watching that video. Amazing driving!
Too bad it's all paved now, no more dirt section.

Monster said it blew 500 meters from the end. It let go around 9:46 and he had water/coolant steaming out as he finished the lap.
Awesome ! By the way, this was the last PPIHC edition with a road still partially composed with gravel. In 2012, the road was 100% asphalt, making the 2012 record break this one by over a minute
How could anyone dislike this video?! That was amazing! Crazy fast car and very talented driver.

***** Bullshit.
Saw the car in person take off. It was an absolute beast caged in body work. It leaped up whenever Tajima shifted. Serious skill to control that much raw power on such a tight road. I road the road on a Ducati Multistrada, things can get dicey pretty quick up there, fun though.
congratulations mr. tajima! finally you broke the 10 minute barrier! yes sir! love these gopro cams too!
WOW that is the craziest race I have ever seen. So many parts that you could just drive straight of the mountain. Wow. Great Video. - JER "Canadian Filmmaker"
Look at that incredible view as hes ripping the switch backs!
Nintendo lawyers on their way to cease and desist my unborn child after i decide to name him Mario
Awesome video of the run. Congrats to Tajima for his 6th straight win at the Peak!
Hell at 61 you just wouldn't care anymore if you rolled off the side! Brilliant. I watched the race one year and sat on the edge of the road as cars blew by. Was so fun.
Best. Camera ad. Ever.
Under 10 seconds in watching this video, I instantly hit the Like button.
Crazy driving towards the end there given the vast stretches with no guard rail. Among many, the correction (with only the tiniest hint of stepping off the throttle) at around 8:01 was particularly impressive.
Even if it looks slow on the camera, you have to remember that the altitude has an effect on the motor. While it may be rated at 900+ hp, it is not making 900hp all the way up the mountain. When Formula One had turbo charged engines at Mexico City in 1988, the turbo charged engines were losing about 10-12% of their power, compared to normally aspirated engines with 23-25%. Mexico City sits at 7,350 feet above sea level, The Pikes Peak Hill climb starts at 9,390 feet.
This dude Monster Tajima is 61 years old. Proves how you're never too old to break records!
In a perfect world someone could have gone 10 or 15 seconds faster especially through the dirt section. He is an amazing driver and very consistent and i could never dream of doing that.
Very good! Esqueci que era um video sobre a GO pro e curti o espetáculo da paisagem, senti a adrenalina do piloto. Video muito bom até para quem gosta de motores. Parabéns, 10 minutos bem gasto.
7:06 + That is old school rally. Some of those people were in slapping distant of the SX4. And that photography at 7:30 had a good view.
Realmente um bom Piloto, fantástica pilotagem. Adorei de mais!!
After watching this I have to give huge props to the codemasters team who was incharge of creating this track in the video game DiRT
i drove this car on dirt3 and i can say that its a monster. i crashed so many times in this car cause its too fast for me and going down a small dirt road at 180km/h. if any racer did that in real life ...mann it was scary enough on a game
freakin real. this guy is a motorsports god. he was also 60 when he did this.
@Richkill I would say so. Me and my buddy were the closest ones at the Halfway Picnic area (look for the red cooler and blue cooler). I had enough faith in Tajima to be sitting as close as I was and greatful that I could experience such raw epicness.
Congratulations Tajima! Hope to see your car and yourself for real one day. Cheers from Ireland!
That was incredible driving! It was also amazing to go from the fairly dense forest and people wearing t-shirts at the start to the top where there was still a lot of snow in places and no trees and people wearing coats. Awesome!
happy birthday MONSTER!
You know a car is fast as hell when you get a sense of acceleration watching it on youtube. I had to watch the first 20 seconds a couple times just to make sure I wasn't missing anything.
Man, those are Monster size gonads! Absolutely incredible.
He is a hero , awesome spectators & track : RESPECT !!
I love how this guy is 61 and is still being a baws
Impressionnant... je suis stupéfait par ce flirt avec les limites (physiologique sur la fin et de la route); contrôler cette voiture surpuissante et frôler les limites de la route sans rail... J'ai le vertige et à certains moments... Chapeau messieurs
Go on son! finally someone has broke the 10 min barrier (Kudos)
last post..keep this in mind boys and girls, when Ari Vatanen broke the record in 1988 with purpose build Peugeot 405 T16,he had 2.0 litres 4 cylinder engine with 640 horsepower and the road was almost completely gravel..his time was 10:47.77..now it's all tarmac, except for 2 miles. Check out Vatanen's award winning video Climb Dance..that's how you drive a rallycar.. 'nuff said! Good day to you all : )
how could you not like this?
@ThePirateMD near the end of the hill climb he is at quite a high altitude, so the air is very thin, this means that his engine is only making about 1/2 the hp it was making when he started
if there was a list of the best video ever made, this video would be it. Wow! the sound quality was beautiful, the being a passenger, strapped to the roof, yeah! this video the driver and the high quality resolution, my vote is cast that this video, is by far the best video on this you tube.
I am in this video!!!! around 4:40-45 on the right of the mountainside....it was AWESOME!!!!!
Only two words that can describe this craziness HOLY FUCK!
Oh lookie here, an SX4 drifting! ;) AWESOME! AWESOME! AWESOME!! Well done Monster Tajima!!
Amazing drive! Talk about a demonstration of knowing the road (and shoulders!). 4:34 proves you can be fast, as long as you can spot the straight lines through the curves. That has to be at LEAST 6' off the road surface 7:33 7:56 8:42 9:27 9:51 - All of these points show how much knowledge of the road he has. It's like he's racing with a pure vision of the road in his head, cause you sure as hell can't see what is coming up next!
@Tekzoned He slows so that he can drop down gears so he can come out of the corner quicker because he has more acceleration!
Great Video!! Makes the drive up the peak seem quick.
MONSTER rocks the MOUNTAIN! CONGRATULATIONS... 9:51.. fast as hell!
@CaneFan25 that was a military jet we have several bases around Colorado Springs like Norad, Fort Carson and the Air Force Academy
That was thee wildest ride I've ever been on
Pure Driving Art!!
We had it so good back then
the feeling this driver must get when going thru most of the course of certain death upon mistake is incredible
Who on earth would dislike this???
Thumbs up if Top Gear brought you here! Seriously good driving. I can't believe someone would compare this to DiRT
@Hardwyre That's weird. I don't know the actual reasons why it was paved, but stirring up the top soil is essential for plant growth.
Hd hero's have come a long way.
I've driven that road but after watching this, I'm not sure I'd want to do it again.
he's going so fast that it makes this video seem like it's being played back faster!
Great quality picture, well done GoPro. Great run
APEXING LIKE A BEAST! MONSTER FTW!
I love watching this video
I feel like I'm in a video game watching this! THIS IS INSANE!
happy birthday monster
this car is beastly. For a second I thought this footage was sped up!
almost perfect race lines
@Tekzoned Get in the corner slow will get you get out of the corner fast.... if you get too fast in the corner you will lose very important traction to turn or accelerate out.... he did really well
@Stthings This isn't exactly the first time this kind of thing has happened at Pikes Peak... it's an annual event.
Nobuhiro "Monster" Tajima is 61 years of age. OMG! The guy can drive 4 sure!
cant wait for Sunday i really want to see if there will be a new record , im going to head up tomorrow to get my camping spot to see all the racers. :D
its like the drive to heaven
and for some reason this race had no real TV coverage.... I'm pleased to see this vid.
People don't realize how tight these turns are until they've driven the road. Imagine in the distance of about 1/4 mile getting over 100mph then having to make a u-turn.
The speed limit is 25 mph on average and as low as 10 mph. The Pike's Peak Highway is 19.5 miles long but I think the actual race is only 12.42 miles. So roughly 35-40 minutes.
That car looks like quite the handful!
damn amazing to see you blow by that fast! Congrats! I can't wait til you use the rest of the footage you have and put it all together like last years!
At 8:15 it looked like he oversteered a little because he got of the tarmac. Really impressive to see (like every year). Just like the amount of power lost near the top because of ill air. Awsome race!
If you don't get the craziness in watching this you may very well be crazy...
8:02 open right-hander, wide in 4th, drifts right and almost looses it on the dust. Pulls it back, avoids the edge and flips God 'the Bird' at the pearly-gates has he has to wait for another day to claim him! Epic driving.
Damn! you can feel how the truck accelerate, how it pushes, when it first starts!
@nagasako7 Don't forget drastic weather change along with the thinning atmoshpere.
@zeitlupenmodus How long contrails last rather depends on the conditions and the part in the video where you could see the CONTRAILS was only about 5 minutes anyway!
The spectators have balls for standing so close to the road while a car like that is going by
Five people mooning him on left side of road at 2:25. Epic!
@arsenedevos it doesn't go anywhere though, just to the top of the 15,000 ft mountain, where there is a gift shop and restaurant ive been to the top, just not a race speed (i've been with a team who competed with this guy in 2009) a 1000hp ford rs200
Jesus, that moment at 8:00 where he almost loses it. I can't believe how fast this was. Crazy.
This is basically my drive home from work mon-fri
