This ship was specially prepared to sink as fast as possible, whilst most ships in normal use (bar the few ones who's management is guilty of criminal neglect) are specially prepared to sink as slow as possible. I'd say you have on average 40 minutes to leave a sinking ship. If the crew don't f#+k up badly AND the passengers switch their brains off like in the SEWOL-Disaster, you got a decent chance to make it. BTW I'd recommend to always read the safety instructions when boarding a ship. I do that, seldomly takes longer than 10 minutes. That's 10 minutes more you have to haul a## in case of an emergency.

@jackmclane1826

Everything was rigged for quick and full flooding. Normally bulkheads would've been closed, pumps would fight the flooding and so on...
For those wondering why it sank so fast: -The explosives were placed strategically to down it as quick as possible -All machinery and safety systems were stripped (it was essentially an empty shell) -Watertight valves designed to slow the sinking in an actual disaster were all removed

Insane how the creaking of the ship right after the blast and before you see the water rush in is almost exactly the same as the type of metallic sound you hear in TV/Movies to inform you that something is going very wrong.
The Mexican Navy operates four modernized frigates, two missile ships and a number of patrol ships for both offshore and inshore patrol. The Mexican Navy also has six tank landing ships at its disposal to transport all of it's 120 units of the Mexican Army Panhard ERC-90 F1 Lynx wheeled tanks at a moment's notice. Just enough to patrol it's resort beaches for the safety of American and European tourists.This ship being sunk is the ARM Uribe, and it will continue it's service as a new reef and a new home to ocean life for centuries to come.

Something about sinking big ships always fascinates me. Such impressive feats of engineering being overtaken so easily by nature is both awesome and terrifying. Even with the inventions of bulkheads and pumps, you can only fight off the inevitable for so long if the ocean finds a weakness. It doesn't care, it just goes where it needs to go.
The Pengu Noots in the music after the ship's sunk are unbeatable.

As someone who works on the water this is fascinating and also pretty terrifying. I've never been involved with any hull breaches but it's insane the amount of pressure that the water enters with. I thought those war movies when the water geysers into the compartments was exaggerated but its completely accurate. And it only takes a few minutes.

@@kk0704 There is a lot of preparation done to a ship before it is scuttled as an artificial reef, fuel, engine, furnishings, plastics, glass, oil, electronics, are all removed. Extra holes are made in the bulkheads to allow more marine life to pass through. Bilge tanks are weighted down so the ship will sink right side up, and much more. It could take a couple of years to have a large ship made ready for scuttling. Even a small vessel could take several weeks to prepare. It is a, lot of work but well worth it.

It only sunk that fast because they placed explosives in key areas and the ship was completely gutted. Why do none of the commenters watch the whole video? Here's a Q&A. "Why did they sink it?" To create an artificial coral reef because all the natural ones are being destroyed. "How did they get the footage?" Scuba divers. You can see one at the end of the video. "Why did they waste the materials of the ship?" It's not wasting. Coral reefs are important.

@@thederpaherp5940 gives fish and other sea creatures a place to hide from predation, a safe place for these animals to spawn their eggs safely, gives shelter from environmental hazards, and gives a place for actual coral to grow. By sinking boats and creating artificial reefs, you can turn a barren, sand ocean floor into a coral filled ecosystem teeming with dozens of different species of sea life.

Thates cool
The ship being sunk is the ARM Uribe, an Uribe-class ocean-going patrol vessel. She's 67m (220 feet) long, weighs around 1,000 tons, and has a crew of 54. Needless to say, she's a small ship. In service, she mainly served as a floating helicopter pad, and was armed with one 40mm Bofors antiaircraft gun. (Yes, the same Bofors gun of World War 2 fame.) The Uribe was the first of six Uribe-class vessels built in Spain for the Mexican Navy in 1982 and 1983, so she had a long career serving her country. Her five sister ships (Azueta, Baranda, Bretón, Blanco, and Monasterio) are still in service with the Mexican Navy. In 2018 the Mexican Navy boasted over 189 vessels of all types, about 130 aircraft, and over 64,000 personnel (not including reserves). The vast majority of its fleet consists of patrol craft to safeguard Mexico's large coastline in both the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea. It's been active since January 19, 1821, and has participated in a variety of conflicts including World War 2 where it fought with the Allies and the ongoing War On Drugs.

Boat Axe Every navy worth its salt has warships that size. In fact, most warships are around that size. They just don't get as much attention as the big boys like aircraft carriers and subs. After all, every country needs to patrol its coastline in war and peace, and doing it with anything but small ships wouldn't be economical or logistically feasible.

It's not correct to have a phobia of 'drowning' unless it's a phobia of others drowning, a phobia of yourself drowning has to be visible so that phobia cannot surface if hypothetically you drown It'd make more sense if you said you had a phobia of the ocean then you can't near the ocean at all but having a phobia of what might potentially happen is not a phobia at all. Have you experienced drowning before?
It served them well when it was afloat, and still does while it’s at the ocean floor
