10 bucks is a good deal for a few amenities. Probably 20 bucks now. We did Muley point and Moki Dugway for the first time, ca 2020 and had a great time, boondocking with few people nearby. Didn't go down to Gooseneck, so thank you for the info. We had no idea of what was there so we were amazed. We've gone through Monument Valley. You don't have to pay to drive through on the highway. You should point out Navajo Mountain. The great thing about these places is the far view and the close-up at the same time. The things you can see that make you feel the immensity of the western deserts and the fascinating life and topography beneath your feet. Like us it looks like you did the Dugway a couple times in a day!

Ann is right about that ledge. She is a good sport, wouldn't catch me that close to the edge. That narrow road reminded me of the old Lewiston grade going into Lewiston, Idaho, only that one had many more switchbacks and lots of semi trucks on it. Always scary! Great views and nice music to go with them. Cheers! Diane

Thanks for the memories! I spent many summers working near this area, years ago. Good to see the Moki Dugway has not been "civilized," lol. I do believe that spectacular bend in the San Juan River is Dead Horse Point. I'm glad you could spend time in this magical place.

I worked for UDOT and We were up at the top of Moki Dugway Rd. charting SR. 161 from the top back to SR. 93. I was looking down at the beginning of the road and commented to some tourist that it was a bit of scary Road; when all of a sudden an 18 wheeler loaded with Hay went flying on past us and down the dugway he went. I wouldn't want to see that coming down the road at me.

That is a beautiful overlook . I've been nearby but not sure if I've been there yet ! ~Amanda

Oh, ya. I've been to Gouldings one time to dump our tank and fill with fresh water, nice park!

I shoot 4x5 B&W and never miss spending a few days in the park when I can. If you're looking for that shot of a lifetime, make sure you're there during a storm. Of all the prints I have made over the past 30 years in Gooseneck, the one from 2 years ago during a late spring storm is by far my favorite. The storms can be very dramatic giving you a reason to include the sky instead of focusing just on the canyons.

I was here with family trying to take a shortcut from Oljato-Monument Valley to route 95 towards Hanksville. This route 261 is the shortcut way (and scary if you don't have good newer car) instead of taking rte 163 to route 191 then route 95 (only add 1/2 hours extra to take the safer route). I caved in and turn around, very scary with lots of loose gravels and cliffs. We took route 163 What about winter time? Anyone driving here if it is unmaintain? What about night time if someone ran into this route?

Just beautiful scenery. Great camera work. I was getting a little scared on the drive up. Bet it was scarier in the actual truck... Putting these places on our bucket list.

Thanks! It's not too bad as I'm used to logging roads in the mountains back in BC. I was only nervous of the folks coming the other way thinking to myself they could be tourists that have never driven on such a road. :)

Utah is just stunning. Thanks for sharing (although my stomach dropped a few times with some shots, haha).

Weather there sure looks better than the record wet rainy season we're having here in Western Oregon.

Speaking of rain - ever have road-spray from tires and passing cars/trucks get things wet inside your trailer? Our brand-new trailer was getting water inside - the dealer says from road-spray going up into the fridge vents (which face downward) and an imperfect seal around the unit inside (?). We'd arrive at our destination and find water on the floor, but none anywhere else. Hopefully, they've got it sealed now.

No, we have never had rain get inside even when driving in very wet weather. A few times water has stayed on the slide roof and when we pull it in has made the floor wet, but that's about it.

I've decided against one for the cost, setup time (we move around a lot) and noise factor, I imagine they hum. If I needed more power I'd add another solar panel, still lots of room left on the roof.

Hi Ray great video. I am a fellow full timer living in my 24' class C however thinking about going to a fifth wheel. I am concerned about the additional length so was wandering if you could do a video on how you pull in and out gas stations, which stations you prefer, how much preplanning you do, what to watch out for, etc. There's really not much out there on YT. Thanks for the video idea, I'll add it to my todo list. The beauty of a trailer is the truck can be filled up beforehand or even unhitch close by and go in and fill. Our truck has dual diesel tanks and we can go about 300 miles between fillups. I use satellite maps sometimes to scope out fuel stops to check access. If you get a diesel truck then you can go where semis go and you know for sure access is good. Get good at backing up and if you travel with someone else train them as a spotter. A few times we have been jammed up in a fuel stop over the years but my wife guides me to back it out. For the most part, though we don't have too many problems find stations we can get in out of. 10% grades...Yikes!...it'd be nice to have a Jake brake on your pickup truck! After 38 years of professional truck driving those kind of grades I have NO use for! But, in a four wheeler it may not be that bad though. Great video as always! Beautiful country! Thanks for taking us along, Ray!

It wasn't too bad, I don't have a Jake brake but with 4.10 rear end ratio, I can just leave the truck in second gear and hardly have to tap the brakes, just coasts down. My main worry was oncoming vehicles. Lots of scared tourists. ;) You're welcome, sure is purdy country.

Not too much other than good donuts and coffee at a chain called Tim Hortons, they are everywhere, plus usually free WiFi and a store called Canadian Tire is good for picking up automotive and hardware stuff. You were so close! At the top of the dugway, drive down a while until you see Cigarette Springs Rd on your right. Sign is posted, can't remember how far the drive is maybe 20 minutes? Anyway, Fallen Roof Ruins is an easy hike and the ruins are up on the left maybe 100 feet up, keep an eye out. Great light in the early morning otherwise it's washed out (for pics). Then when you get back on the road, turn right and you'll hit 95. Make a right and look for the House On Fire ruins trailhead. Another easy hike down a riverbed(watch for occasional rattlesnake) and the ruins are on your right just at a big bend about 20 feet off riverbed. Also great light before say 11am (earlier is best). These are 2 easy hikes and you were within 40 miles(maybe) of them both. House on Fire ruins do not "pop" with fiery red as some images show on the internet, that's "greatly" exaggerated. Neither place should be missed and honestly, you'll enjoy them and the hike. House on Fire gets a lot of people but they seem to start later in the AM than I always have. By 10 you've got more than a few friends there making it difficult to get images without people in them.

There is another route but it is quite a trip around through Blanding and back - goo.gl/maps/GuuS9Q6sDRy Muley Point is down a road just past the top of Moki Dugway.

I had to back up part of a mile at one point to let another truck go by when we made that drive. That drive can be traumatic to some people. Understandably so. Ray, I wish I could email my 16" telescope to you. I've had it out west a few times and the views from those dark skies and elevations are like astrophotographs. And, there are a series of books called, "Roadside Geology" that are good travel companions. Each book covers a state and it's hwys. The chapters describe the geology you are seeing around you, mile by mile. Enjoy your travels & thanks for taking us along.

Cool! Skies were amazing, we had a few clear nights. I could tell a few of the drivers were nervous, they would sort of freeze and let me by. I'm pretty used to these types of roads having traveled the backcountry logging roads on Vancouver Island. Only on the logging roads at any time a giant logging truck can show up. Now that will pucker you up on a narrow road with a drop-off. :)

A fellow Canadian, I have been subscribed for over a year and I think this is the first time we have had more than a glimpse of the famous Anne. At the end, are they Anne's pictures? Does she have a photo album somewhere? How do you find the dually for maneuvering in places like this? Did you ever wish for a small Jeep behind a Class A instead?

Yes, the places aren't too far from Mexican Hat, Bluff and Blanding, which have fuel stations. The area is heavily traveled by tourists as its part of the Utah Grand Circle route

It has about 165,000 now, very reliable 7.3 diesel, we put in anywhere from $2000 - $4000 in yearly parts and maintenance. No, I look at it as the risk we take to live the life, we have insurance. I haven't had a problem in almost 7 years. Likely there is more chance of break-ins leaving it parked in a driveway or at an RV Park in a city than way out in the country. A lot more thieves around. Cheers!

There are lots of subtle differences but nothing major. We share a lot of the same culture. It's hard to generalize "USA" or "Canada" since both are so large there are differences right inside each country state to state province to province. IE. Utah is much different than Louisiana. Newfoundland is different than Saskatchewan.

Moki Moe key Don't pull a trailer up or down that. Close to Lake Powell after climbing Moki. Also Combe Wash not far .. great area. Shhhh don't tell anyone. San Juan River dumps into Lake Powell (Colorado River)
