GOOSEBUMPS THE MUSICAL: PHANTOM OF THE AUDITORIUM - Video Preview

Chills, thrills, suspense, and a phantom are in abundance when Dallas Children’s Theater (DCT) opens its 34th season with GOOSEBUMPS THE MUSICAL: PHANTOM OF THE AUDITORIUM. The spooky yet silly show is based on the 20th book in the iconic Goosebumps series authored by R. L. Stine. DCT is inviting all families to attend the best costume party of the fall. GOOSEBUMPS THE MUSICAL: PHANTOM OF THE AUDITORIUM opens Friday, September 22 at 7:30 PM at the Rosewood Center for Family Arts.
The haphazard detective work of Scooby Doo meets the witty banter of Glee in this frighteningly fun musical, based on a book from the second best-selling children’s book series of all time. Brooke and Zeke are starring in their school play …The Phantom. When strange things start to happen during rehearsals, no one is sure if it’s a practical joke or if the school’s theater is haunted.
“This show is filled with fun characters and special effects, and it’s got just the right amount of scary action for children,” said Nancy Schaeffer, director of GOOSEBUMPS and DCT’s Associate Artistic Director. “It’s kind of a spoof of Phantom of the Opera, but with a kid-friendly twist. You’re sitting on the edge of your seat one minute and laughing at jokes the next.”
Stine’s book series is world famous, having been translated into 32 languages and selling 350 million copies worldwide. For many children, Stine’s books are a first step up from picture books and have inspired many kids to pick up a book on their own accord: “My books are really easy to read, the chapters are real short; it’s all reading motivation,” says Stine in a recent interview with DCT. “I never get tired when parents come up to me and say, ‘My kid never read a book in his life, but last night I caught him under the covers with a flashlight reading one of your books….It’s a wonderful thing!”

My only complaint is that the characters are supposed to be in middle school yet are played by adults. It would've made more sense to age them up to high schoolers, given that a TON of shows have adults playing high school-aged characters. Just a thought

Exactly. The characters already pass pretty well as just really nerdy high schoolers, speaking as a nerdy high schooler myself
