I'm in awe of the passion Nightwish fans bring to the table. Kinda sorta inspiring actually 3. Tuomas, The keyboardist, is the bands leader musical and lyrical writer. He is often referred as the Modern day Mozart. Floor is classically trained, that is where you "operatic" vibes are coming from. You have a lot to learn and waaaay more to discover here and the Nightwish Army will be along for the ride. Nice reaction. Your journey has just begun. Welcome to the world of Symphonic Metal.

hey Stacey.....during the lockdowns and with cabin fever slowly taking hold of me, i was introduced to Nightwish by chance. I saw a father daughter reaction of Storytime from Wacken 2013...............the rest is history. Nearly four years later i'm still just as amazed by their music. I made it my choice to go see them life one day and this year June the 12th myself and my wife (Who is no metal head) flew from far South Africa to Gelsenkirchen Germany to experience this great group live. It was a true divine experience especially hearing Floor Jansen, the Valkyrie Metal Goddess, and who was nearly six months pregnant on stage. Keep up the good reactions and enjoy your Nightwish journey 😇😇😇😇

Wow gene6690 You flew all the way from South Africa to Germany for the Gelsenkirchen show, and here we thought we made an effort by driving for almost 6 hrs LOL. I agree with you though the show was magical, it was also a nice warm night and the venue is the best outside venue I have ever seen them in. (also seen them on a festival with 70,000 people as well as inside with 20,000 other people) Gelsenkirchen was just 6,000 and the sound and view was amazing. I guess it being an Amphitheater helped also. I hope they will perform there again. I know you saw an awesome show.

65+ old guy....got into Nightwish the last 2 or 3 yrs and I'm seriously impressed. Ive been a long time rocker and I've seen this fusion of rock/metal and symphonic sounds before. Kansas, Yes and Rush have all incorporated elements of classical and symphony in varying degrees since the 70's. Kansas has performed with a full orchestra as well. Having said that, Nightwish is the most spine-tingling group I've ever heard thanks mostly to Floor's spectacular vocals. I understand their keyboardist is responsible for most of the writing and arranging on their material so that makes him responsible for that epic vibe they've had since they first got together. Rest assured you'll definitely enjoy this ride!!!

Something that you should know about FLOOR JANSEN. She started singing in a symphonic metal band at just 16 years old. After Forever (1995-2009). Then she created a new Progressive Metal band, ReVamp (2009-2016). In 2018 she released a personal Hard Rock project (Northward). In 2012, she was invited by Nightwish to finish their world tour, after the band's second female singer (Annete Olzon) left. In 2013 she became Nightwish's full time lead Vocalist. She is a singing teacher. She sings in Dutch, German, English, Spanish, Finnish, Swedish, Italian and Latin. She sings Heavy Metal, Trash Metal, Pop, Rock, Symphonic Metal, Arya and Opera. She even sang rap. In March 2023 she launched her first Pop solo album "Paragon". THE BEST SINGER TODAY IN THE WHOLE WORLD. Having said that, I want to make it clear that I ADORE Nightwish songs, Walking in The Air by Tarja Turunen and Meadows of heaven by Anette Olzon.

Meadows of Heaven! Too bad no decent Live recording that I know of exists, but the song is mesmerizing enough to just go for the album version in this case. I recently came upon the fact even GREGORIAN (yeah, the band of "monks" singing chorale versions of popular hits) did a cover of it. Must be something. "Meadows of Heaven" is Tuomas arguably at his most poetic - and peaceful. Such a fitting closure to an album of "Sturm und Drang", and rebirth through pain, that is "Dark Passion Play".

People will probably recommend an assortment of Nightwish (or other Symphonic/Prog/Power metal groups) and they are all great, but I would suggest you listen to their performance of The Islander, Live from Tampere in 2015. It is Marko (the bassist who performed the part of the Phantom) doing the majority of the singing.

I love this song because it not only has operatic elements to it, the name gives it away as the song structure. It is written like a piece of classical music with a well-defined beginning, middle, and end.

Yes! I hoped that you would like this and continue exploring Nightwish. There's a lot more to experience as all their songs are different. On your reaction to "Phantom of the Opera", look for Gabriel's comment. He has a song list that is a good starting point into Nightwish. But feel free to explore on your own if you want - there are no bad Nightwish songs, only some bad recordings. If the singer is Tarja or Floor, usually the live performances are the best option. Annette most of the time sounds better in the studio versions. Another band with a similar style is Epica. Their genre is "symphonic Death metal", but they have a wide range from ballads to harder songs. Maybe start with "Consign to Oblivion, live in Paris"!

I'm so glad that you have decided to continue down the Nightwish path. You have so much more to see and experience. Nightwish's core remains constant, but they grow and mature with each album they deliver. The keyboardist, Tuomas Holopainen is the composer of most of their music and has been called the "Metal Mozart." I see someone has suggested "Romanticide" next and that would be a good one to sample. You are doing fine, by the way. Just one little correction. Wachen is one of the largest metal festivals in the world. It is located in Germany and is pronounced "Vachen". Not a big deal, but you seem like the kind of person who likes to get things right.

The guy walking around is guitarist Emppu Vuorinen. That's typical of him. Because of the many backtracks, he doesn't have to play constantly. That's why the whole band disappears from the stage in the middle of the song. Floor is officially just the temporary help here, for 10 months. However, it had already been agreed within the band that they would become the third singer. Floor hadn't agreed easily. At the same time she was in her second band ReVamp and had recorded an album parallel to the tour and planned a tour that she is doing after Nightwish. She must have suspected that there was hardly any room for a regular band next to Nightwish. There is therefore no studio recording of any of the songs with Floor. The first regular album will be released in 2015. One of mastermind Tuomas Holopainen's role models is the film composer Hans Zimmer. This cannot be ignored here. The song was written in 2003 when Pirates of the Caribbean was in the cinema... The ending doesn't correspond to the original. Floor it was too lame and replaced it with a dynamic one. She adapted other songs to her voice. She typically sings a mixture of pop and opera, thus combining her two predecessors. This concert is one of the last with drummer Jukka Nevalainen. Unfortunately, he suffers from chronic insomnia and has to stop recording the next album in 2014. He asks his friend Kai Hahto to take over temporarily. He will not return and has been working in management ever since. Floor learned humility the hard way. She is a workaholic and had a burnout in 2011 that put her out of action for 18 months. The first tour after that was with Nightwish and was a risk for everyone. Today she pays a lot of attention to her inner balance, but she hasn't managed that this year. In 2022 she survived benign breast cancer and then became pregnant. At the same time, she toured with Nightwish and also with her solo program. After the penultimate concert with Nigthwish she collapsed and was taken to the hospital. She had to cancel the last concert and the last two of her solo tour. Instead, she retreated to her small farm in the middle of nowhere in Sweden and had her second daughter.

I’m glad you mentioned this song and its relationship to Pirates of the Caribbean and how Tuomas sees Hans Zimmer as a role model. There’s an urban myth out there that people believe that Toumas wrote music for the film which of course is incorrect.

You can definitely tell that, while Tarja, Anette, and Floor all add their own special flavor and characteristics to Nightwish, the instrumental side of things is always consistent. If you ever listen to their instrumental songs like Moondance or Last Song of the Wild, you can really tell that they can stll keep the Nightwish vibe without the vocalist.

Funny enough, "Moondance" is the song that got me hooked on Nightwish... 😮 Even though I grew up in a home where opera was played relatively often, I felt that Tarja was a bit too over-the-top for my taste. After hearing "Moondance", I decided to give Tarja another shot and soon enough changed my opinion. I do think that Tarja - especially in the early years - can be a bit of an acquired taste.

Floor Jansen really killed this performance, she commanded the entire audience and did a pretty much flawless vocal performance. Her dance moves during the parts where it was instrumental in between her vocal segments really brought that mystical element to life as well imo. I think this specific performance of the song is a performance you only manage to pull of once in a lifetime. Even as skilled musicians as they are, they are only human in the end and we do mistakes all the time, but this performance is basically almost flawless.

Stacey,Nightwish have buckets of great ,even epic songs, just waiting for you to listen. Example 'The Greatest Show on Earth' (Live Tampere) is song where Floor tells story how universe and humans came alive...Music in that song is partly fitted with fireworks. What comes to Floor, she can produce so high note that even NASA can not reach it or so low that even best mining company have difficulties to catch it.

It’s so much fun to see someone so pretty as you reacting to Floor, especially Ghost, for the first time. And kitties? I love kitties. In fact I have a whole herd of cats. Well, actually they have me. They’re mostly feral or abandoned pets and are usually just approachable when I feed them twice a day. Along with raccoons, possums, skunks, trolls, whatever. I live in the back of an old ranch and really not sure what comes around. But they all seem to get along. One year there were kittens and baby skunks playing together. Anyway, just wanted to say I loved your reaction. Luv you too girlie. One more thing just so ya know. I’m 75 and tired of young hotties lusting after my body alla time so don’t get any ideas. Okay?😊

Symphonic Metal is mostly a European genre, which is why it is less well known in the States. Other bands worth looking at are Epica, Within Temptation and Delain. Kamelot is a US band that does some Symphonic Metal but are often considered power metal.

I had never heard of this genre of music until I heard this song a couple of years ago. It's very big in Europe but not so much in the west. Nightwish is a Finnish band and there are lots of other great groups to explore. Looking forward to watching your journey!

12:33 The Floorgasm brings yet another convert to the family !! 😁 Welcome Sister. You’re one of us now. Just FYI, that’s about 70 minutes into the show, and Floor had been killin’ it the whole way already. Also, that’s 82 THOUSAND people hanging on her every word; so, no pressure on her to Bury that (9 second long)high note.... At 6’1 and 170 pounds Floor is a smiling, singing, dancing, enchanting, stage commanding Valkyrie Goddess, and to me at least, a gift from above. Seeing the whole video of this concert, Especially the Floorgasm changed my life. It made me start listening to music again. Hello Stacey. Nightwish Army reporting from the Netherlands. Welcome to the wonderful world of Nightwish. They are from Finland. And they make Symphonic Metal. What you've heard here is just the tip of what this band can do. Nightwish really hits you in your heart. And that's what makes this band so unique. Her name is Floor Jansen and she is Dutch. There were 82,000 people there. I happily refer you to Gabriel Bardac's comment (he'll be here soon) for a list with lots of song suggestion. Watch out for the Nightwish Army. Greetings from the Netherlands.

I was also a bit late to the "Nightwish Buffet", I discovered them in the early 20-teens along with Epica and Within Temptation. Both are stellar and will "WOW" you. If you decide to take your journey in a COMPLETELY new direction in metal I recommend Disturbed's cover of Simon and Garfunkel's "Sound of Silence". A live version on the Conan show is wildly popular on reaction channels as well as their Official Music Video. Also, during your reaction to "Paranoid" you watched Geezer Butler (legend/hero) play bass with his fingers and wondered if that's painful. I started playing bass when I was about 14 and yes, at first it hurts. I practiced so much at first they bled (a little) but it doesn't take long for calluses to form and then, no pain. Playing with your fingers gives your tone a warmer, organic feel while playing with a pick has a crisp, brighter tone so it's personal preference. I preferred my fingers because a pick felt like a "middle man" that, in a way disconnected me from my instrument. With fingers I directly felt the music I was playing.

Welcome to symphonic metal, Stacey, and the genre’s premier practitioners (IMO)! I didn’t know the genre existed until about 10 years ago, and I was *immediately* hooked. I certainly hope you continue on this NW journey - there is so much to discover and be amazed by. Stick with live performances where you can (there’s a ton!) as that’s where this band REALLY shines. There are, or have ever been, very few acts that are their equal. Again opinion, but many seem to share it. Enjoy! P.S. I saw your cat visit and had to laugh. Mine was lying on me as I watched your reaction. She was as disinterested though in the music as yours LOL

Greetings from the Colorado Brigade of the Army... great reaction to one of THE iconic LIVE performances of ALL TIME. Been down the Nightwish rabbit hole for about 6 years to date. I stumbled upon the band about the same time I discovered reaction channels. This is the track that creators will grow their channel with. It guarantees about a thousand hardcore fans and thousands more of the "less hardcore" fans. Somebody somewhere ran some metrics on this MV and it has hundreds of millions of views that are attributed to reaction channel watchers. And it's the most often used gateway drug for those looking for a better high. It hits all the endorphin centers! I've been through their catalog a few times and while I'm "less hardcore" than the most dedicated fans, I've also been around the block a few times. This band (as seen in this performance) is without flaw. I think EVER DREAM is the perfect followup and a great introduction to their bassist/vocalist Marco Hietela. Marco is one of the OGs of METAL and possesses the very rare pure metal vocals. This exact lineup, and there are several, is the best of them all. Sadly, two of the brilliant musicians have left for health reasons. Jukka, the drummer, left full-time drumming to be part of the management team. Marco had taken a "sabbatical" holiday from the industry for his mental health but has returned to us in other forms. (Highly recommend checking out his recent collaboration with the band Exit Eden and the MV - RUN) The Wäcken recording is certainly one of the best "live" productions ever committed to any medium and the best source for many NW performances. The sun, the moon and stars were in harmony for this Headlining band, for the premier metal festival at Wäcken Germany, possibly in the world, certainly in Europe. Gabriel has provided a map for the journey to enlightenment. But it is not a Bible. Sometimes the road less traveled leads to discoveries beyond the imagination. NW and Nightwish adjacent projects abound. The list of performers that are connected to this lineup is staggering. Most notably is AYREON. Ayreon is a project conceived by the brilliantly gifted Arjen Lucassen. Multi-instrumentalist and creator of the Ayreon universe, Arjen enlists the best talent from across the genre, (Symphonic Metal) and globe to give life to his imagination. And it is VAST! I wanted you to know that the community you're now a part of is Very welcoming, passionate AND excited to join you on your MOST EPIC EXPLORATION of your new FAVORITE BAND, singer(s), musicians and community. The community includes, but certainly not limited to... After Forever, Revamp and Tarot. AF and Revamp are bands that Floor performed in before Nightwish and Tarot is one of the bands Marco formed prior to his tenure with NW. Other NW adjacent experiences you MUST explore... Ayreon...of course Epica... (also female lead and deeply entangled with Floor. Much to discover there.) Evergrey Kamelot Avantasia Dream Theater (considered one of the Progressive Metal pioneers) Within Temptation (female lead) Amaranth (female lead) Delain (female lead) Elysion (female lead) Nemesea (female lead) The Dark Element (female lead, sensing a theme?) Myrath Sonata Arctica And so, so many more... I don't know if your intention was formed BEFORE you decided to start a reaction channel, but you could do a lot worse than jumping in with one of the most loyal fanbases. Welcome to the army! Colorado division reporting for duty!

The reason Floor doesn't do too much on stage is because she's classically trained and the vocal performance always comes first. She doesn't jump or run around as that would effect her stability and breath control which would have a negative impact on the vocals. That's why she was able to deliver this flawless and powerful performance 13 songs into a 15 song set! Pretty incredible!

Thanks for taking a second look at Nightwish. I saw them roughly a year before this show in 2012, a week before Anette Olzen, the second singer, left the band. I'm happy I saw them with Anette; she was fun and engaging and sounded great. That was such a fun night; a great group called Kamelot opened for them (though both bands played equal time) and had two guests, singers Elize Ryd of Amaranthe and Alissa White-Gluz, then of The Agonist and currently of Arch Enemy. If you like drummers, one of my favorite drummers I've discovered during this musical journey I've been on for three years is a fantastic musician named Akane Hirose. She's the drummer for Japanese band BAND-MAID. The only thing I'm going to say about her is that Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin saw a BAND-MAID show and was so impressed that he had to meet her and get a pic with her. I'm going to recommend BAND-MAID's live performance of their song "Freedom" as it really shows off how good the band is and how badass Akane is. Don't do any research into the band, please, just experience them when you're ready. Here's the link. kzread.info/dash/bejne/eHyk16eqfaTJdMo.html
