Your analysis is good with one caveat.. Patel was not having a private conversation but did an interview for his publication with the interest of his clients (readers) in mind. He was delivering the questions they would have wanted to ask Pichai, even if he is not the right person to address many of the details. I see the interview commented on and applauded to in many places, so Patel was successful with delivering a piece of content that will make The Verge money, gain respect as a tech authority website which dares to challenge leaders. If Pichai will come back for another one next year.. that's a different story.

You are right. At the end of the day, it is about the money and clout. Though I see many industry experts bashing the Verge for not asking meaningful questions.

Pichai is only interested in increasing his bonus money and overall total compensation in the SHORT TERM. Stock price at all time high at the expense of long term shareholder value? NOT a chance! Pichai will be running for the exits in less than 2 years and Google will be left with the wreckage.

Honestly, I wouldn't believe anything that comes out of the mouth of Google big wigs. They've shown their true colours and I'm over Google. On to other avenues of marketing. It's a shame. I think the future of online marketing is to build your own tribe - however you can do that. Email marketing, videos, podcasting, etc. What do you think?
