I live in Melbourne too, bought mine yesterday, got it working perfectly fine with my iPhone but i couldn’t connected it with the google hub. Very tricky, its said you need to go to Nest app to connect it. Anyone knows how to connect it with the google hub please explain further. Thank you :)

Is the nest hub feature free?

Two get the actual ring notifications on the phone u have to go in settings on your phone choose apps and find Google home and u can actually set the ring notifications through that..worked for me

Re it not ringing you - why not set up a bespoke notification sound (e.g. ding dong) just for that app...then when someone presses your doorbell, a doorbell sound will play on your phone.

Can you not just make your phone do a different chime for doorbell rings? Mine makes different noises for damned near any notification I get... so I know which ones I can ignore.

Just replaced a ring battery doorbell with this, initial thoughts are that the picture and night time quality are better then the ring, looks nicer and overall is better than the ring battery doorbell (although mine was a ring 2 doorbell and newer models may be better), although I suspect the nest battery life won't be as good on the nest than the ring, only disappointment is that althou I have a zone set up for the area within my boundary fence, the sensor still picks up activity outside this zone and although it does not record these activities, the lights on the bell to still illuminate, therefore do have an effect on battery life

Very nice review. One thing you mentioned about not being able to distinguish the camera/bell notification on your smartphone, I changed the notification sound for camera notifications from the Google Home app (android 12 supports this, not sure about earlier versions) and now I have a different sound when my camera detects someone. It's very useful and I expect it would work with the doorbell notifications as well.

I have the older Google nest and did the same thing so that my doorbell notification wasn't the same as M in regular notification sound. It was terrible because I had to constantly check my phone.

Thanks for that Vid. Does ist give notifications to smartphones that run different google accounts than the one it is setup with?

I have one and I agree that the notification function is deficient. It should call or ding the phone at the very least or offer a voiced alert, the same as you get (and pay for) through the nest speaker. A half-baked device.

Can it be setup that all family members get a notification or is it limited to one person?

Really tempted to get this. I've just got the nest wifi which gives me a speaker too. I read on the Google store that if someone does pinch your doorbell they will replace it free of charge so that's a win!

Hello, thank you for you video it was very helpfull. I wanted to ask you where does you doorbell sound when you ring it? I want the doorbell to ring on my iphone, like using my iphone as the chime, but cant manage to do so. Video works, notifications work, but I cant make it ring on my iphone or ipads. I was looking for new doorbell to replace my current one at my home. I was concerned about some issues on the Google doorbell. Firstly, the battery life of 1 month, that's kind of short as my current set lasts about 4 months on battery, but the product's company advertised as 6 months. Secondly, its about random strangers prying off the doorbell from the entrance door. Googles' doorbell designed has a straight box shape frame which allows someone to grip it with their bare hands to rip it off the door. My current doorbell has a tapered frame, Small diameter on the face while a wider diameter on the back of the frame, thus preventing one from grabbing the camera because of its slippery frame. One would need a pen knife blade to get behind the gap, fingernails and screwdrivers will not be able to get In between the gap because the frame is of metal construct and tightly attached to the wall of the door leaving no gaps. The only reason why I would like to change my doorbell, is because I don't like the Chinese software on my doorbell as the software is questionable. Like the effort on your review.

Hi, if I have an amazon eco does it work like the ring doorbell that when it rings you can hear it in the eco show that some are in the door?

Just got ours and we have a wired door bell but not sure if it is compatible so we use our Alexa’s for the chime it chimes throughout the house and on the living room where the fire stick is we have it show a live feed on the tv

Quick question before I get it, can you make the nest doorbell chime on only a few google speakers in the house instead of all?

For this, you need to set up the specific speaker you want to use for a visitor announcement on the same home structure with the doorbell.

My old Google doorbell gives the same alert as your Google display shewed on the video Chris. Does the new one deffo not have this, or do you have a setting wrong? Cheers...

There is an IFTTT integration that can call you if there is someone at your door.

I was ready and set for the 3pm embargo lifting of the iPhone 13 Series and this happened...

For the notifications to your smartphone. You should be able to give that notification its own sound so you can tell the difference. Without having it call you.

This is what makes me nervous, I have limited Internet providers in my areas and my wifi is awful at times. I’m always having issues so I’m not sure if any video doorbell will work then

I used to think the same but 4K doesn’t mean that much. I’ve got two 4K G4 pro unify cameras but if they’re not exactly in focus (and the focus point changes quite a lot when they walk up the drive) it can be slightly blurry anyway. You can either have it focused on the road or on the drive. Autofocus doesn’t seem to work and you just end up with a blurred image.

Hi Chris, i was recently giving a Google nest doorbell camera just like the one you have.i have a couple of questions to ask if i may. If i have a Google account already do i need to download the nest app for a fee? Also i found out my daughter has access to my camera, and she has deleted several videos so i couldn't see them. How do i remove her from the account? Thank you for any help.

Appreciate the video. Totally agree with the notification comment. Just had mine installed. Tried to set up notifications to phone like my cameras now do and my wired Nest doorbell at my former property -- to no avail. Surprising. Disappointed and wish I had done my homework before install. :( Video is good quality though. Just need to work through the lack of notification issue.

The Google video doorbell is an awesome piece of kit and had to purchase the Google mini speaker to get the door chime and response. It really is rubbish that the notification from your phone is not brilliant and it's a pain to get set up but isn't very reliable, however, it is early days as I've only had it installed for 3 days. It's still a 9 out of 10 though 👍

How quick is the notification when someone is in view? I have a cheap Chinese doorbell atm and it misses delivery drivers as it doesn't register quick enough! 🤣

Great review, after having the doorbell battery for almost a month, I don't recommend it at all: 1. the button is not clear for people to press! it sound silly but delivery people are knocking on my door not noticing the button (google made it too modern (very thin light on the button no symbol of a bell or anything) that doesn't convey the purprpose which is annoying. 2. even when wired the battery keeps dropping off under 75% which what where it should stay at when wired according to google (meaning you will have to charge at some point as it will not work after getting to 3% even when wired) 3. It's not good at play back events, a lot of times when playing history of events, the image is stuck but you can hear the sound of what's happening making the event useless 4. there is no way to remotely restart the doorbell, you will have to take it off and press the button behind for 5 seconds. you will have to restart it at some point when there is a glitch (and it happens) 5 if the action was too quick you will only see the last end 6. Google home is a mess, they have learned nothing from nest app (which is far more better)

Great review. The doorbell theft thing is a concern of mine, but time will tell. With regards to your other bugbear, could you not set up an IFTTT rule to have Goole Nest ring your phone when the doorbell is pressed. I am sure that is possible.

Not an option. Just notification on iPhone and Apple Watch.

I'm pretty sure it's suitable for most people, but I still prefer to have constant recording, which I hope they do with an upgraded model.

@@chris7077 Apparently you know nothing about real security which is obvious. Full recordings give you more detail than a clip as you can get the whole picture instead of short clip that started late in an event. Professional security devices never do clips.

I think so. I read another comment saying that if you do that it will keep the battery at 75% to maintain battery health and still be ready if it loses wired power.

I would love one of these, but unfortunately I live in rental, and the locals are the types that try to avoid cameras. It would be ripped off the wall, the camera part defaced etc.

The lack of smart phone notification / ring is a massive par as that’s what the ring doorbell gives you. Annoying as I wanted this. I don’t have any Google speakers or anything I use my phone for my nest camera and wanted the same functionality using this doorbell. Never mind.

How long does it take to charge? That's the only thing you missed.

My battery only lasts 1 or 2 weeks max. Quiet neighborhood and all battery saver options are enabled too..

What do I do if I lost the box with the qr code?

My battery is only last a week. Zones set up, quite close to router and only having 10 - 15 interactions per day. All settings are on battery saving mode. Anyone else with similar issues?

I cant believe the functionality to ring the phone isnt there? Surely that's the actual only reason its worth getting?? My older nest doorbell does that and its so useful to tell people to leave stuff etc

I have 6 google Homes/Mini in our house. Do you have to have all the google Home/Mini's say there is someone at the door, or can you choose which ones? I don't want my kids google Home's to announce it.

Does this device still have a limitation the same as the previous version that in the UK and other countries it will only use 2.4ghz? "In the United States and Mexico, Nest Hello doorbells can use the 5GHz and 2.4GHz bands. In the rest of the world, our doorbells are regulated as outdoor Wi-Fi products, and by law such products can't use some of the 5GHz bands. So we designed them to only use the 2.4GHz band."

Where are the footage stored?. How to secur it so a burglar can't steal it and run off with it? I don't think a pair of thin wires can stop someone from steeling it.

What happens when it gets nicked?

I just bought this, and I'm actually really annoyed that I can't get the doorbell to ring on my phone. I found a path on the app to make the unit ring, but that only alerts the person ringing it, like they don't already know they're there? A real miss on the functionality of a doorbell, if you ask me.

I can't imagine that matte white staying clean looking too. Maybe a "press here" bell sticker covering the whole button is a great idea. When it starts to look grubby, peal it off and apply a new one.

I have both this and Eufy 2HD 2E. They are both good. The Eufy comes with a base station which has much more memory and will hold many days, weeks of history. The Nest only 3 hours without subscription. I think the Eufy looks better. If I have to choose just one, especially considering price, I would choose the Eufy. And Eufy is half the price.

Ring requires a Monthly subscription to see videos. Minimum $8/month. There are too many doorbells that require no subscription. Nest, Eufy, Lorex, etc.
