Nice touch to quote Harvey Dent from one of my favorite movie trilogies! 👍 I have not yet switched to a video doorbell (and that's inspite of having several free ones sent over by companies that wanted to partner and integrate their products into our smart research platform). But that could be because I am picky about latency, no subscription fees, no being tied into any manufacturer's ecosystem etc.....and because I am able to replicate most of the features (except the chime) built into video doorbells with regular cameras from Reolink with Blue Iris or even Raspberry Pi with motioneye (and few Twillio and/or Sendgrid routines for notifications) . 🙂 Completely agree with your assessment though (especially for non-geeks like me) about Eufy for budget conscious consumers and the newer Ring Pro for people with extra budget (even though many of my friends are sick of the increasing latency with their older models - planned obsolescence in older models?). Question: What is your thought about any theft deterrent features built into the doorbells you reviewed here? I know there was concern previously about some doorbells getting built in SD card storage to solve the missing 24/7 recording problem but that was defeated if the doorbell could be stolen relatively easily.

This is the second home in which kzread.infoUgkx0jZ_lGlDVJhDnmagEU8gn47cmfPNlLQU we've replaced our "regular" doorbell with a Ring video doorbell and we really enjoy it. It is very easy to install and it works very well, with a clear picture through the app and good in-home use (we added the chime, which is also easy to install and doesn't require another thought to use).

Great video, Reed. I've been thinking about getting a video doorbell for a few months now and this video guide has led me in the right direction. When there are a few top options, that's when the hard part comes in. I'm considering Eufy, Nest, or Ring - but I'll also have to get Hoobs up and running to get it working within myHomeKit setup.

Thanks for this video which is perfect timing for me. One thing is consistently left out even from manufacturers are the physical dimensions of the devices. So far I found that Nest Doorbell is the slimmer. Even then, it's an eigth of an inch too wide to be put on the jamb. I really wish they would be slimmer or had a slimmer adapter especially for the angled installation.

Place a heat pad behind the ring setup if wired. It will be a makeshift build but a solution nevertheless. If you want to get fancy you can get an Arduino (or some type of IFTTT trigger) to program it to only kick off at certain low temps. I have a heat pad warm up my lithium batteries at a certain temp automagically.

I have the Wyze Doorbell on my side Door where it's a step up to get in so it's a narrow area and it works perfectly for my needs. I agree that I wish it had a SD card reader but for what I use it for, it's great. On my front door I use the new Ring Wired doorbell and it can see my entire yard, I'm very impressed with the viewing angle and picture quality. The only thing I don't like is the monthly fees for the full functions for both devices. That leaves my back deck and back door with a wireless doorbell/flood lamp to install and you've given some great suggestions.

Very infomative video. The one that's missing IMHO is the DoorBird. It's pricey but well built hardware, and the nice thing is that it can be used without their (free) cloud service: you can pull the video feed with RTSP, and have the doorbell part work through a SIP telephone exchange like Asterisk. We're using a few of these in our properties, and we have fully integrated it into our home automation solution.

Another great review. Have you look at the Lorex 2K? I have two, one for the front door and one for the back, but I have mixed feelings about them. On the plus side it has no-fees, local storage and I also have it recording 24/7 via RTSP to my NVR which is awesome because I can view it on my TV along side my other cameras on the NVR, that feature is a must for me. The person detect works really well, the image quality is quite good for a doorbell camera and the HDR works really well. I have a 3-1/2 watt LED porch light and it's bright enough to give me a color picture at night. The problem I'm having is that on occasion the notifications can take forever...as in several minutes! It's not a signal problem and it's not a power problem. There are so many great reviews on Amazon it has me wondering what can be wrong.

Very nice comparison. One thing that is probably lower-level consideration is mechanical/digital existing doorbells. Support for them and speed at which they ring is important for those of us that have them (I have one that plays music/whatever clips outside). Ring Pro 1 supports them but had a 2-3 second delay before the chime sounded but the Pro 2 is instant.

Just setup my Eufy 2K today. The things I hope they add in the future are: Ability to upload the videos to an FTP location or something so you can preform automatic local or remote backups of your videos. Ability to have prerecording just like the wired one, I understand it does not have this for battery reasons but what if you got it wired? Ability to customize how it triggers the wired chime, for some reason it goes sort of crazy with mine, I think it closes the circuit for too long and upsets the mechanical chime, it would be cool if you could customize how it triggers so maybe it would hit my mechanical chime twice for a half second each time.

Great review. Really useful. Bought the Eufy after seeing your video last year ! Still very happy with it. Only thing Indon’t understand is why you recommend the unify g4 when it has such terrible two way audio. Or did I misunderstand this ?

Hello Reed ! thank you for this excellent video !! One question tho... what would be your choice for battery doorbell ? Between Eufy and Ring 4 for example ?

Great video.... takes alot of time producing this type of video. One question on the Eufy, how far can the base unit be from the camera (s) . My research says that's a big complaint on this system...Hope not, was going to buy three of there cameras

I have the UniFi Doorbell and I love it. The only con to me is lack of POE

I've had nothing but issues with mine. The UDMPRO consistently resets itself and loading into the live feed on my Pixel 4XL is unbearably slow. The other issue I have is that you cannot set a custom "doorbell" notification when the doorbell is pressed.

Thanks for the reviews, very helpful -- do all of these require external power or are they battery powered? Did you rate the Arlo doorbell?

With your next review it would be helpful to also know which ones are wired, which are battery operated, battery duration under average use, and distance from router/modem or hub.

Hi Reed, my Eufy Doorbell seems to have HDR, although it's the wired one with onboard SD. So might be worth checking that out.

Personally I went with the NSC-DB2 from nelly security as this is ONVIF compatible which works great with my Synology Surveillance system. If I could do it all over again and had more money to invest into their eco system I probably would go with Unifi as I do have the dream machine
