Wondering if you should be using Google Jamboard or another virtual whiteboard? We created another video where we share the pros and cons of three virtual whiteboards and help you decide which one you should be using. You can find that video here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/h3V3y8axlJW5qKQ.html

I’ve been teaching middle schoolers 100% online since last March. I have found Google Jamboard to be a great tool for students to collaborate. I went from about 5% student engagement to 98% student engagement by using Jamboard. Jamboard is great for brainstorming, a quick check for understanding, or an exit ticket just to name a few ideas. There are also free Jamboard templates online that are great to use and save you time. Each time I use Jamboard I quickly review over some digital citizenship guidelines, because I do give them editing rights. I would recommend Jamboard to teachers who have not tried it out. Thanks for creating this video!

Thank you for sharing this video. I had heard of Jamboard and how great it is, but have been reluctant to try it because I felt as if I was using too many online platforms with my students. This however was very informative and made the process of starting to use Jamboard more simplified than I had originally thought. I look forward to using it in my virtual classroom. Thank you!

Hi Ciannie! Thanks for watching and commenting. I am excited to read that you are interested in using Jamboard after watching this video. I agree that it can be overwhelming to decide which online platforms are best to use with students. The great thing about Jamboard is it is so easy to use so it doesn't take a long time to figure out or require you to spend a lot of time training your students on how to use it.

Thanks, Vestal for a high-quality and informative video. I was looking for a resource to train educators on ways to collaborate with other educators. Jamboard was my answer as to a tool to use; a link to your video is the resource that I'll include in my course.

Hi Krystal! Thanks for watching. I've never done an end of the year open house. Usually, I have had an open house at the beginning of the year. Can you give me an idea of what types of things you would normally do at your end of the year in-person open house? Then, I can think about how to translate those things to a virtual setting.

@@Vestals21stCenturyClassroom Hello! Thank you so much for getting to me. For our traditional Open house at the end of the year is to showcase all of the students' work and projects. Parents have 1.5 hours to walk around the class to see all of their child's work that they put together throughout the year. They may also see other student's work too. IT is not a conference but a celebration of the student's work. As for teachers, I just stand on a side to greet the parents and only say positive things about the student. I play music in the background with slide shows of pictures that I took over the year. This year we don't have much of those collaborative photos. Thank you. :)

@@krystalthitran1100 I would make a slide show or video with pictures and samples of student work to play. You could also have students make videos where they share their favorite things from the year/accomplishments they are most proud of. You could play the slide show/video and then end with you sharing some special things about the school year and student.

Hi Beatriz! Yes, you can add worksheets from documents or PDF files by selecting, "Set background." I have another video here on the channel that shows how this is done in Slides. The same concept applies to Jamboard. Here is the video, if you want to check it out: kzread.info/dash/bejne/p42Ju7SappfVdMo.html
