Yeah. Just stubborn companies going against their mantra ("we want your data"), like, if you wanted it, Google, you would encourage me to ask it adult things. I've sent feedback to bing for the same problem, but I guess they don't want the AI to get dirty or risk it derailing because reputation matters more. Just perplexing.

I'm starting to feel like AI is perhaps fundamentally counterproductive since it needs to predate on publicly available user generated content to punish and supersede the users who shared their info out of goodwill. I don’t understand why corporations won’t just compete to create a better, more efficient product, instead of trying to squeeze money out of everyone

Simply because money is everything for corporations these days, especially if your company is on stock market. It doesn’t matter if it’s a good or shitty product, all that matters is revenue and yield. In my opinion free capitalism will fuck up everything over time that was good before. As a professional SEO who has been reporting on this feature for over a year, THANK YOU for bringing this to the public's attention. It would be one thing if Google's AI product were a massive improvement to its organic search results but we have overwhelming evidence to the contrary. KZread search has also been broken. I'll search for something and sort by upload date, and the first bunch of results seem fine. But then all of a sudden dates between videos jump up very fast as if there was a drought in uploads (just to give an example, the first 10 videos or so may all be from 1 week, and then 10 more videos later I'm suddenly at 10 months old or so and it only keeps getting older and older). But then when I limit the search results by video length, all of a sudden I get a bunch of NEW results that weren't there before despite meeting ALL my keywords, proving that a whole bunch of results were simply not shown (and that of course leaves the question if filtering video length is a solution to see everything, or if there are still a bunch of videos hidden just not as much as when not filtering video length).

Today, it seems, that's where you start looking for something you actually searched for. Sad times.
AI, as it is right now, is just a fancy version of the predictive text on your android keyboard. All it does, is predict what word would come after the one it has output. It does not verify what is being output.

I think the real issue is if this gets normalized, 5-10 years later fewer and fewer sites will be made and maintained , because they aren't getting any engagement. And then what happens?
Google has went from being an "information collector/distributor", and now they want to become a "full information provider" and dominate the entire space of information. This can't be good.

Generative AI are like the skinwalkers of the digital world. Providing you answers to questions torn from other sources online that are just believable enough while still dipping into the creepy and weird uncanny valley.
This just happened to my son and me last week. He was trying to figure out how many days are left in the school year if school was done on June 9th. It gave 3 different answers depending on how you asked the question, and none were correct. The first time, it included weekends as school days, then the second time, it didn't include weekends, but it forgot Monday is a holiday (mlMemorial day). Then the third time it seemingly understood the question and didnt include weekends or holidays as school days, but it still came up with the wrong answer. We gave up. It was just a test for fun anyway.
@katnoto8993

AI stuff isnt as good for stuff that's specific to your situation, because all it does is pool common answers together. The more common the question, the more likely it is to be correct. As soon as you need to know something that can have different answers depending on your specific situation, it has no common pool to draw an answer from. It doesn't know much of anything about your school or your part of the world or what year it is or have the ability to reason. It is just a "average answer" generator to the questions you give it. For things that rely on recent or specific, niche information, it has no examples to draw from, and the best it can do is the general concept of a school year, somewhere. For questions that have a generally consistent answer, like "how to tie shoes?" the answers it gives are going to be more useful. It will have many examples to draw from when answering, and the answer doesn't change from year to year. You can ask more specific questions but you will always get better results the more data is out there that already exists to answer your question. It doesn't work stuff out, it just repeats what the general consensus is for the answer.
I stopped using Chrome in January. The invasiveness and data collecting just got too much for me to tolerate anymore.
