Google Home Mini - Chromecasting Audio/Video with your voice

Ғылым және технология

A demo of three different home entertainment setups where I'm using the Google Home Mini (along with either IFTTT or Logitech Harmony Hub) to watch video or listen to audio content by requesting it via voice control through the Google Home Assistant and either a Chromecast/Chromecast Audio device.

"Hey Google, turn on/off (tv name)" will work with most newer tv's with Chromecast plugged in, as well (and CEC enabled on the tv). You can also use voice commands with all casted video as well, like "pause", "play", "go back/forward X seconds".

You're right! That'll work with my Bravia, but not sure if it will with the Vizio with the Chromecast built in. Not sure if thats a given, if a TV has Chromecast built-in, that it will automatically have CEC too?

louididdy with your harmony I'm guessing the whole shebang is turned on and off. but once everything is on just test it by saying "hey Google turn off (TV name)". (Of course cec might be in there but disabled.) Handy to turn off the TV but leave everything else on.. Thx for the vid btw!

Great video, i have a question. Do you think if IT is possible to view a video by Chromecast en listen to the audio by bluetooth using home mini or Chromecast audio?

If your TV has bluetooth output for sound and you cast to it, it could work. I haven't heard of Chromecast Audio being used as a sound output in the way you are mentioning.

Apologies, another question (my Harmony Hub isn't here yet). If everything is turned off, could you say "turn on " and it knows that's a favorite channel to it turns on the TV activity and then turns to that channel? Or do you have to tell it to turn the TV on first and then tell it to change channel? thanks

I dont use that feature personally because I dont have any cable boxes or Roku. But according to this (Section 3.5) it seems doable: support.myharmony.com/en-us/harmony-experience-with-google-assistant

do you use IFTTT with Harmony or just direct connection from Home to Harmony?

Maff Mace In the first two examples it's via IFTTT, the last set up has the direct link to the Harmony skill so that I can ask it to raise/lower the volume of the system from bed without having to use my mobile device.

Great video, but please mute the "ok google" in editing ;-)

Klaus Noergaard I thought the visual warning to mute would be enough, but I'll put forth the extra effort next time. Thanks for your comment.
