I don't think many people wanted to top/bottom split on a landscape tablet, so it never gets talked about.

Train tickets too expensive for me.
5:18 it should simply be "you have a large screen" rather than looking at whether it's wider than it is tall. Tablet mode for apps should be available in both portrait and landscape on large screen devices. Hardcoding orientation as the trigger for tablet mode interface was stupid on Google's part.
@NedalHanna
Ай бұрын
I kind of disagree on this... It's quite arguable*; that's why I would give an option in each app s settings whether to use tablet layout or phone layout, cos both point of view are valid...

@@NedalHanna in the absence of an explicit option, the tablet interface should be orientation agnostic when unfolded on a large screen.
@elho001

No, making it depend on screen size makes no sense. Reason to get a larger screen device despite the higher cost and worse pocketability is to have apps show their content bigger/more of it, not smaller/less because the app decides to waste the extra screen estate on some auxiliary stuff you do not care about. Worse, whereever the point is, above which a screen is considered large, you had slightly larger devices showing the main part of apps about half the size (in a pane) than slightly smaller ones do (fullscreen). With the aspect ratio, you can at least choose by rotating. (And on almost square screens like the OnePlus Fold there is no other change.) Case study: The KZread app. I can conveniently read and write comments on a tablet in the non-split portrait mode only. In landscape split mode, the comments are crammed into the tiny sidebar using one quarter of the screen, three quarters showing things one does not care about (if one wanted to see those things, one would not have tabbed on comments in the first place). Yes, ideally each app with split mode would have a setting like always on/always off/on in landscape, but I am not daring to hope for that.

@@nickthaskater I fully understand your point... I just need the option in each app settings cos personally I _sometimes_ prefer the phone layout.
I was surprised that the Gfold doesn't let you preview on the front screen when videoing w the phone open, like the Zfold can... weird.
appreciate the information brother. I am holding out on these folds. Samsung ain't doing it for me right now. Definitely looking at the pixel fold 2 or the one plus open 2
I would like my Z Fold 5 to split at the big display above and below because it's higher than wide. really don't understand why they do it standard left and right.
I like the way Google doing the split screen on my Pixel Fold. Plus I never turn mine in a narrow orientation it's better just opening it as is . The wider the better for split screen like my S8+ landscape is better for split screen.
As a custom ROM dev for the OnePlus Open this makes things a lot better for AOSP based ROMs like Lineage or PixelOS ROMs. Welcome change in my books reguardless of what Google releases.
With regard to the Pixel Fold Pro Fold, your second topic is what I am REALLY hoping Google does correctly. I’m so used to the “dual panel” and will hate losing that, if we do.
i heard pixel fold 2 is 10.5mm when folded and 5.2mm when unfolded ?is it true?
Question Shane.....so is the pixel fold when open and turned the same size as the one plus open and soon to be pixel fold 2?

Thanks for This! I have a question. How MANY Apps IS It Possible Yo Have Open AT THE SAME TIME ON Fold Pones? Is It ONLY 2? OR Do SOME Phones Have MORE Than 2 Apos Open AT The Same Time. AND IF SO, Which Phones ARE They? Thanks in advance.
@scaryifliteral
Ай бұрын
Pixel fold can do two. Z Fold and OnePlus Open can do 3.
I know I say this each time, but this could all be resolved by using screens with a root 2 ratio. Rotating the front screen produces two halves that are still 1.414:1; opening the device produces a larger screen that is effectively two portrait screens at 1:1.414 or one landscape at 1.414:1. The proportions and app scaling are consistent and app designers and UI don't have to make all these 'decisions'.
Im glad I got my fold 5. Didnt know pixel was like this
To be quite honest I would not mind getting all Google products only if my financials would actually allow for it. I actually like the Pixel Fold for its unique look and functionality. But also I would like to also jump both feet into their ecosystem from earbuds to the tablet.
I'm so conflicted about the pixel fold 2. The aspect ratio is a huge draw to me and idk if it's worth sticking with when I upgrade when they change it.
Shane do you think the Pixel Fold will get even better once the second one drops or will it get left behind?

5:43 I unequivocally prefer the split screen to be retained with whatever screen size it is on. The split screen feature shouldn't be restricted to one screen orientation or dimension it should be made to work versatile.

I got rid of my Fold 4 for a iPhone 15 Pro Max just to change it up a bit. I did that because I had the fold 3 and got the fold 4 only because the trade in deal was just so good. The fold 5 and NOW the fold 6 doesn’t peak my interest. Not much is changing at all between each generation to make upgrading worth it. The Pixel Fold 2 however is catching my eye.

I never noticed the split screen per orientation but I think it is super smart...
It is so Google for them to change the one differentiator that all of the early adopters of the device really liked. I like the fact that on the front it's a smartphone that opens up into a landscape miniature tablet. I believe almost every other foldable starts off as a slender portrait smartphone and then opens up to just be a wider portrait smartphone. I think Google overreacted to the love that the OnePlus open received from KZread. They should have kept the current form factor and just improved the other things that needed to be improved. I don't like the fact that this device is going to look similar to every other foldable. They need to keep their differentiator.
I am in love with my O+O

The dual pane UI should work in both orientations if the device allows it. For now pixel trends to use portrait UI(phone) because there is not enough space for both panes to show up perfectly. Another thing, I will like to see desktop UI over dual pane because in a bigger screen it doesn't make sense to get dual pane with less information over desktop UI.
