Another sharpness test I've done for many years is to fold a piece of TP or paper towel up over and over until the point you can't anymore then slice into that. It gives you a really good idea of bite because if the edge is rounded or over polished it just glides across and won't dig in.

K390 reminds me of a less brittle - more stable & versatile ZDP-189 blade stock

Very good comparison. I guess ZDP would be a good example of how chromium carbides weaken the structure.

@@Alumapro23 I love my ZDP-189 but it is on the brittle side so you have to be more careful. I understand why people knock on it for chipping but it can cut & cut forever on "normal" materials.

@@doejon9424 One of the reasons I’m not a stainless guy (I know ZDP isn’t stainless, but it has the same issues). Those chromium carbides help with stainlessness, but they also weaken the matrix and help to create “chippy” steels.

What do you think of that M4 FRN Sage? Seems like it would be a good all-around format.

I’ve always felt like the Sage was much more ergonomic than the Para 3 and the similarities between the 2 models are very unexplored. I did a video on the two years ago. I have a soft spot for m4 and tool steel so I don’t have anything besides good to say there. I don’t personally have rust/stain issues, but if you’re a person that also doesn’t have those issues, it’s hard to argue against m4, IMO.
