    I purchased the Goodyear eagle f1 assy 5 for my mk7.5 GTi performance because of Andrew’s recommendation. They have been fantastic so far. Lots of grip and make the handing really nice and confidence inspiring. I will look Forward to changing these to the 6 for even better performance.

    Hey Darren, had some very good miles on the 5 both on TCR (18s) & 19s on my Mk8 CS. I was doing 1200 fast miles per month and needed good wet weather performance but also decent dry weather grip when I was in the mood on right roads. The Mk8s had loads of like left when swapped back to originals at 14000 miles (rotated front to back) so durable as well as a good performer. Glad you’ve experienced the same 😎

    I have these tyres on my GTI Performance and they are great, especially stopping grip as tested in an emergency situation! Don't know much about the 5's but these are very good and reasonably priced although only have 7mm tread from new rather than 8mm.

    How's the ride comfort compared to say Michelin Primacy 4+ that the Polo GTI comes fitted with, if anyone has tried both? Polo GTI forums see ride complaints with the Michelin and just trying to gather info for when new tires are due down the line.

    Tricky one, the 5 was super plush, I'm guessing 6 has a firmer sidewall as it's promoted as being sportier and that's a key factor in that. I'd try and get data on sidewall stiffness between the 6 and the Michelin as that might answer question. Ride comfort is rarely covered in tyre reviews but is a key attibute of a tyre, would love to compare but not easy. On my Mk8, I went from 18" Goodyear Supersports to 19" Goodyear Asymmetric 6 and I am convinced the ride didn't worsen which it would have had the 19s been Supersports. Some feel was lost though so as ever, it's a compromise.

    Is this “testing” or promotion? I would say it is the latter. I recently got the As6 for my 996. After worn tyres the new ones are always quiet and because there is quite rubber thickenss to start with the tyres feel a bit vague sideways - but this usually gets better when the rubber wears down - and wet qualities get worse. My assessment is that the tyre feels quite a lot like PS2 by its sideways stiffness, however with less sideways damping. It feels more bouncybouncy in steering wheel. It could be down the initial rubber thickness though. Anyway, I think As6 would be a fantastic tyre if they had two plies for the sidewalls instead of one. The grip level is excellent, wet grip as new is very good and price is quite reasonable. But when it comes to steering and handling feel it is not even near my all time best tyre which has been Potenza S02A - that is, by handling feel. Bridgestones tend to have the stiffest sidewalls. They obviously put a lot of emphasis on the torsional stiffness of the tyre tube. Michelin probably represents the opposite end but with very good damping, good grip and longevity. That’s why you can forgive the sidewall softness of PS-UHP-range. After the first 1000 km the prognosis is that the As6 rears rears will last 13 000 km while PS2 have done typically 15 000 in my car. Sport Contact 2 did only less than 6000 km. I think they could not handle the heat. Potenzas did something around 8 000-10 000 km. The 911 is excellent car for tyre testing as it requires quite a lot from the rear tyres - a lot of stability. The front tyres have an easy life in all cases in 911s but of course you want precise steering feel. Typically a 911 wears three or even four of rears while the fronts get old by age and still have 2-3 mm left.

    Replaced the 5 with the 6 on my Stage 1 FWD Mk2 TT after seeing this. The Asymmetric 5s lasted me 26 months and 16,000 spirited miles and were at 3mm. I could have squeezed about 3K miles out of them but the performance was no longer the same. I had traction breaking a lot more often. It was still very safe and all just not as fun. The 6s feel great from the get go. Hope they last at least as long.

    I got them on my M240i for 1 day now. Can't tell much about grip yet, but they're definitely a bit quieter and more comfi on bumbs than my old Michelin Pilot Super Sport. I also noticed that the steering behaviour is little bit more direct than the PSS. Next week I'm gonna do some full throttle accelerations and drifts.

    Based on your advice Andrew I recently stuck a set of these on my Leon as I was getting fed up of the wheels spinning and traction kicking in even in the dry with moderate acceleration. These tyres are night and day above the Pirellis I had previously. Certainly up there with Michelin's famous Pilot Sports and a bit cheaper too! Thank you and please keep doing what you're doing :)

    Thanks for the feedback James. I don't get paid to promote Goodyear, it's all from personal experience, largely by coincidence (Assymetric 5s fitted to my TCR by previous owner, Mk8 CS from factory with Supersports when it could have been Hankook or Bridgestone). You've reminded me I haven't driven properly on Asymmetric 6 so must get some soon.

    What a privilege to be able to take part in that (& for taking us all along for the ride too)! It's interesting (I've always been a bit of a "tyre nerd"), it's seriously made me consider these for my 7.5 R Estate when the time comes to change the tyres - I've been a long time fan of Continental tyres for my cars (the SportContact 5p tyres that came on my golf are excellent - much more so than the Pirelli P-zero I had on my old GTD), but I'd definitely consider the Asymmetric 6 too.

  • @volkswizard

    @volkswizard

    Жыл бұрын

    Definitely a privilege, probably best driving day of my life! I think the Asymmetric 6 would suit the R estate very well. Goodyear's Supersports are a great sporty tyre but less of an all rounder so a 6 should suit the well rounded R Estate nicely. For me aquaplane resistance is a high priority on any car including 4x4 like the R and the 6 is very good at this while still being a nice responsive tyre in the dry.

It sounds daft, but tyre choice is a huge thing for me, it's a big investment that I'd be stuck with for a long time if I chose badly! Didn’t really get a chance to give it the full once over but to get in and drive fast so easily says a lot. Loads around in Europe and there is an ABT tuning package with Cupra approval (saw an ad in Austria)

    The Formentor is a great all-rounder with a nice quality interior in my opinion . I bought a Vz3 in March. I do feel however that it needs a bit more power and so asked Cupra about the ABT tuning package, it is available directly from ABT but it turns out that it isn't approved by Cupra for the Formentor! It was approved for a limited run of Atecas apparently.

    Thank you Simon! It's only because of the support of people like you that these opportunties arise. Tyre pressure tweaking to suit personal taste is a good topic, emissions regs mean manufacturers run these higher than idea (especially on Golf 8) so there is some benefit to be had from lowering them with a slight degradation of economy/emissions.

    I brought my asymmetric 6s in early July changed all 4 tyres on my golf r, I think they good bit off a hardish ride over bumps and stuff but you don't buy a car like that for comfort, brilliant grip in wet and dry, got them surpriserly cheap compared to PS4 and PS5

    @@vollcare4076 Was obviously running it without tyres, lol..... I've just gone to assymetric 6's from A5's! The 5's were a great all rounder for enthusiastic road driving only! 225 40 18 on a standard GR Yaris convenience pack. I had them new from summer 21 to now, therefore experiencing all 4 seasons. They were only changed early, due to my toyota dealer fu..ing up a 4 wheel alignment after a warranty job which wore the insides very quickly. They'd covered 12K miles/ 16 months and were down to around 4mm from 7.9 all round, except for the inners close to 2mm, due to the alignment incompetence, driving in 50/50 awd. Obviously compensated re their huge error. Not even bedded in the A6's, plus winter so a pointless review currently, except the A6's feel a little firmer on the sidewalls and possibly slightly better in cold and damp grip? Come spring and early summer, I'll put a full comparison review on tyrereviews. Having had pz4's and ps4s's on previous i30N, pilot super sport on a seat Leon cupra R 265 2011, earlier assymetrics, conti sc3, f1 gsd3, and the earliest first decent tyres, the michelin mxv3a, I believe that was just before the pilot series! Obviously numerous different cars, all fwd hot hatches, bar the current GR4. I am definitely an f1 assymetric fan but I was certainly wowed by the f1 gsd3 in 16's. Arguably the best wet weather tyre I've used, especially re zero aquaplaning!
