Goodman System Not Cooling Due to Major Issue | HVAC

Double wide trailer not cooling due mainly to dirty evap coil but I found something else slightly concerning out at the condenser. it felt like the right thing to do in my opinion and I was trying to cover as many bases as possible to get the tennant as cooling as best I could.

    From what I understand a TXV has to have a full column of liquid feeding it to work correctly and adding that half of a pound might have made that column full so the TXV started opening up and dropping head pressures. I have seen others add just a little to see the TXV reaction. I guess that is where a sight glass is worth its weight in gold. I really enjoy your videos!

    In that situation with the high head pressure and it being 100° outside, but superheat high and sub cool low (after evap clean), would start by cleaning that outdoor coil like you said to try and lower the head pressure, especially you saying lack of maintenance on rentals for sure. Then once that head pressure lowered I would still be looking at that subcool for low charge. If that outdoor coil caused that head pressure with normal refrigerant levels it would eventually lead to a high subcool overtime with the txv. 100° outside in the southeast we would see about close to a 380-390ish head pressure possibly outside. You sounded like you were going the right direction. And the 150-160° suction is normal for that high load inside. I keep editing as I watch the video. As long as the txv bulb is mounted securely and tightly, then it will do its job because it’s just refrigerant in the bulb reading a temp. If the bulb was dirty and poorly mounted it would cause more refrigerant than needed to enter the evap

    They're everywhere. Thankfully being where I'm at dealing with the super cheap property management's, I'm forced to learn these systems and repair them or bypass stuff to get people going while we wait for approval. I remember I was thrown in front of a 1980s Rheem electric air handler, first winter at this company on a section 8 apartment complex. I took the panel off and found nothing but fan relays, heat strips, terminal bars, and 90-340 relays. I was so confused but after about 30min of just remembering the basics and following voltage, found a bad relay and got the unit back working.

    I think you have your guidelines backwards. Txv works off of head pressure? The bulb measures superheat which is evap pressure. Then you say if subcool is low clean the condenser. Dirty condenser produces high head pressure which normally gives a high subcool, which makes you look OVER charged. That's how I heard you and it sounds backwards. I don't know what should have been done here (unlike the armchair geniuses) but I was just clearing up the rules of thumb as I understand them.

  • @AB_HVAC

    @AB_HVAC

    25 күн бұрын

    Yeah I did jumble that up. I guess what I meant to say was when dealing with a txv you look at the head pressure side, because your head pressures sat temp and liquid line temp determine subcool. That's my bad.

  • @Mo4Honesty

    @Mo4Honesty

    25 күн бұрын

    @@AB_HVAC that's ok we are all trying to learn (I hope most are here for the right reasons). But again, if you have low subcool, on a txv, you are not overcharged, so that is still confusing. Care to elaborate?

  • @AB_HVAC

    @AB_HVAC

    25 күн бұрын

    @Mo4Honesty I wasn't the one saying I was overcharged someone else was. At first my gauges were reading like around 150/470 and a 30° SC and -1°SH. After cleaning the condenser it was running 1° SC but I was at a 30° SH and a 80° SL temp. So I added 1Ib and got the system to start sweating the suction line at 72°, 15°SH, and 2°SC

    I don’t think the system was overcharged I think you just had lack of air flow…. Even though it’s subcool metering device you still need proper airflow. That evap and I’m sure the blower wheel was just as dirty, you did what you had to do, but I don’t think you need refrigerant

  • @AB_HVAC

    @AB_HVAC

  • @AB_HVAC

    @AB_HVAC

    Only thing I could argue against that would be since the pressure was high and superheat was off the airflow couldn't have been affected from the blower motor too bad but definitely a factor

    Your wrong! You mumble to much too.😂😂😂. Did you check the incoming side of the air handler coil? You didn’t clean or help the evap at all. Nice effort though. Had you checked the incoming side of the coil, it will be packed. So, your system is overcharged. Simple. Thats it. As well, being the evap coil is plugged, knuckleheads before you tried adding gas to get the suction pressure up. No bueno. Condenser coil needed a quick wash and fins straightened out. Good on that. So before you start on the wrong path of sub cools, superheats, temps, and all the deep stuff, and get yourself mumbling, get to the simple things first. 99% of the time it’s the easy stuff that is the issue. ( plugged evap coil). A quick inspection will get you started on the right path to a positive result. Nice vid. Enjoying them.
