£200,000 depreciation over 5,000 miles. That £40 for every mile, or, to put it another way, £1,000 for every 25 mile spin. Dang.

I think, true

While there are clearly multiple personal reasons for this, Damian did not get to the point where dude can afford to buy, run and maintain these cars by being sentimental or by ignoring the math. Dude lost £200K in three years on this vehicle. Damian is a wealthy man, but that IS a lot of money by any standard. The global pandemic has and will restrict the availability of the rallies and motoring social events that he enjoys and that was a main draw of this car. The vehicle is extremely expensive to run and insure and is frankly corroding before his very eyes in spite of his meticulous care and attention. There is absolutely NO incentive to drive it as there is zero market for the highest mileage V12 TdF risking even higher losses on what is already a rapidly depreciating asset. And that is before risking the ruinously expensive repair bill if something did go wrong while this vehicle is in his care. Keeping the car is even more untenable when he (a) already has a dazzling garage AND (b) a brand spanking new 488 Pista Spider spec'd to his individual preferences (hopefully without the 100% premium) inbound that can give him all the attention, entry to exclusive events, admiration and driving pleasure that he enjoyed so much with the TdF... Even if it will be a future classic as he predicts this will not happen for several years and keeping the car under glass for that time would be a motoring (and financial) travesty of the very highest order. This is a reasonable decision (one that could be argued is long overdue!) That said, many thanks to Damian for sharing the experiences with us as you maximised the value of this vehicle. Hopefully the next owner will be as good a steward and motoring gentleman/lady as he has been. Damian, I sincerely hope that you do not overpay for the next bit of rolling art you acquire (*cough* T50 *cough*) and that this TdF sells quickly! Cheers!

@@jonathanrath2627 Depends what you’re looking for. Of all the shouty KZread “influencers” I’d say he is definitely the best, but that’s scant praise really.

Having seen the interviews, you would definitely pass the criteria to own a T50, assuming you could afford it. Probably the biggest compliment I could give. Now just for that lottery win so I can get one and own the highest mileage example in the world.

The TDF must be one of the best looking cars ever made and this looks to be one of the best specs of any TDF. It’s better to have loved and lost and all that. I hope the new owner makes as many memories and enjoys it as much as Damian has. I really enjoyed this video too. Great to see the clips of previous TDF trips. Maybe with a cheeky £600k of extra liquidity the next watch guys video might be of that Lange Datograph being unboxed. 😍😍

I guess never easy to let such a stunning car go, but...the point is look forward to the next adventure and opportunity. Apart from a 288GTO and a Schumacher era F1 car, you have experienced the very best Ferrari’s ever made - F40, 458 Speciale, and F12 TDF. Love the colour Damian shame it has to go! Saw many Tributos outside the Museum @ Maranello near the factory last October, and had a spin in the GTC4 Lusso, drove past the factory and the Scuderia the sound of the TDF brings back memories. Great channel!

I'm hoping the strategy is to a) first and foremost make smart decisions in curating the garage, an ongoing process and b) while taking a depreciation hit and selling some great vehicles in a soft market, you ultimately come out ahead by buying that 288 GTO which has gone down even more and whose opportunities for purchase are far more scant than re-buying a F12 or an F40 later. Also, I have no earthly idea if the 288 GTO market has gone down, but these modern supercars and hypercars all bleed together a bit for me. The 288 GTO, now there's an organic thrill! And what more subtle intoxicant can there be than nostalgia, to paraphrase Don Draper's Carousel pitch.

The F12 just looks so good. The only thing is that TDF always reminds my of TDi (just the letters). But what about it vs. normal F12 ?

AWESOME. I absolutely loved that video. You mentioned the drive to Ferrari HQ. I remember walking into the Ferrari store in Maranello and when the door opened you were greeted with the blast of a Ferrari V12 soundtrack as the glass doors opened. Also what a museum, a must for any petrolhead. Keep these videos coming. Love them.

For mine this somewhat tells the woes of modern premium cars, the cost to fix, insure them etc, means they will never be driven, awesome as they are they will never give the smile per mile of a Talbot rally car.

I would love to see you have a T.50! Love the TDF, but if selling it opens the door for something exciting I support that!

The TDF is a dying breed. NA V12 with that much unrestrained rawness might not ever come around again due to all the changing regulations. It’s actually my favorite Fcar, even more so than a LAF!

What I love about your attitude, Damian, is that you experienced some depreciation on this one, but you've made money on other cars. I remember the episode where you ran the numbers and, on balance, your cars have appreciated. What this car has given you (the Ferrari tour) is priceless. Good way to live your life, man! I know you have a special project on the back burner.....I thought it would be that crazy Koenigsegg thing, but now my money is on the Gordon Murray T50. Do it, do it, do it!!!!

True petrolhead mindset: what's next to come is the most exciting. Although the f12tdf is my very favorite modern Ferrari, even above the LaFerrari (favorite hypercar) it's wise from you to let someone else keep dignifying this glorious prancing horse. Love the 5pm Friday notification - can only mean one thing...! Your feelings for the TDF seemed to be like a lot rather than love. You seem to love your 355, 458 and the GT3 Touring but not this. Nice to have owned it and enjoyed an ultimate V12 Ferrari and have some great memories but now you have a nice budget for the next car you want to own.

£200,000 is a hell of a lot of money to drop on a car, but as you rightly say, some experiences you just can't buy and ultimately they're the things that you always remember and re-live.

I live in Dublin, Ireland is so crazy for insurance can I ask you a question with high-performance supercars Ireland rarely cover anything over 3L there is some sort of way around this insuring your car with your house! In the UK when you insured your F 12 TDF! Did Romans assist you with the best insurance company? I see Joe Macari London has a TDF for sale at the moment for quite some time now actually! Is there a way of insuring the UK supplied car with the policy based in the UK whilst it will remain in Ireland? Probably not? Perhaps you have knowledge on this.

Sad to see the TDF leave your garage but we’re looking forward to it’s replacement. Top work guys and drive safe. ✌🏼

Nooo... the cry was heard across the land. Not the TDF. Anything else but the TDF. Memorial services will be had to commemorate this sad occasion. Just knowing it was there, in the garage, giving us all hope that we'd again hear that sonorous Vl12 at the limit, those quicksilver gear changes. But alas, poor Yorick, it's song will be heard no more. What jewel will arise from the ashes of this calamitous event.. we wait to see. Thanks Damien, for sharing what can only be a dream car for most of us. RIP TDF.
