Goodbye, Barry Berkman

From start to finish, Barry was a beautiful show that I looked forward to watching every week. So, now that it's over, I thought I'd say goodbye.

    Barry had the perfect balance between comedy and serious moments. Barry died the way he lived. The series were so good.

    The ending was insane. Just pure painful bookends to each character and then in it’s final minutes it hits you with probably the only joke of the last season AND one happy upside to the whole thing in Barry’s son. That was shocking in itself, what a great and utterly unique way to go out, I felt everything watching that. Wow

    So the show is about accepting the lie? That’s not a life … but children the moral of the story is … no matter how many families you hurt bridges burned… relationships squandered… you can go to Hollywood and make a whole bunch of money telling other peoples lies… for money to pay back the people who you wronged… cause that’s the point of all this … right?

    @@ihatenwo bruh they didn’t disappoint for dexter. Everyone always wants the killers to die in the end in these types of shows and they always get what they want, it’s boring at this point when you know how it’s gonna end which is why people didn’t like dexter getting killed by his son, it felt forced and the writers essentially forced him to kill a cop thus breaking his code meaning he had to go, it’s why everyone always dislikes the last season compared to the the previous, but you watch these shows for the ride which makes them enjoyable. Now that Barry’s over next is You , Joe Goldberg is finna die.

    @@Emery6393 Barry spent much of the later half of the show, especially the last episode, focused on "where he was going" after death, ie heaven or hell. He kept looking for justification to kill Cousineau from various Christian podcasts but in the end right before he died he agreed turn himself in, hence some form of "redemption" even if he didn't get a chance to go through with it

  • @samueldeadman5733

    I interpreted different. This time skip was all the characters thinking they changed when they really haven't. The only two people who came to self acceptance, Sally and Fuches, got to survive. Barry, Cousineau, and Hank couldn't so they got punished for it. Hank died in the cold hands of his love who he murdered, Cousineau couldn't get over his ego and ended up being known as the bad guy in the end, and Barry was still only worried about himself until he lost everyone, then got denied the redemption he's been after for the whole show.

  • @space_1073

    @space_1073

    Жыл бұрын

    @@samueldeadman5733 I pretty much agree with all of that except for Barry’s ending. It’s all about how you interpret that long pause and his mindset but I saw it as him essentially turning himself in before dying. Just because there wasn’t enough time for the police to arrive and for him to be in cuffs doesn’t mean he didn’t symbolically surrender himself and make things right before dying. Most of the show has been him speculating he’s going to hell for everything when he dies, I think he redeemed himself in that last moment

  • @lotsofmos

    @lotsofmos

    Жыл бұрын

    @@space_1073 the entire show is Barry trying to redeem himself and then ultimately failing. hence "starting now." i think that's the main struggle of his character and why he does the things he does i.e. joining the acting classes. barry, at the end of four painful seasons of running, decides finally to turn himself in, to finally redeem himself like you said. but just like every time before this, before he can actually *make* a change, he's cut short. i think barry's ending was actually extremely tragic as he died the same way he lived. that's just my perspective tho-- what i love most about this show is how two opposite opinions could both sound so convincing. cheers :)

    It’s funny, even after everything Barry did, I was hoping he would change before it was too late. I actually wanted to see him become a better person, but this was never a story about redemption.

    He loved his son & Sally, he was saved (thus already redeemed), and he decided to do the right thing a moment before he was shot. The redemption came earlier than in Cousineau's living room. :)

    He just had a series of unfortunate events all play out perfectly to make him look guilty and the police just went with it. Then the movie makes him the villain as a cherry on top. It’s so hilarious.

    The man got what he wanted, in a way. Always wanted to be the star. He almost changed his course with his newfound spiritual path, but the prospect of a story about him reeled him right back into his old ways. Funny, in a funny and sad way.

    When I saw the title, I immediately imagined the clips would be set to D4NNY's classic, seminal hit "Goodbye" Edit: Oh, shit! He released "Goodbye 2" 18 hours ago!!!

    Really good edit, might want to reduce the volume of the music tho, as it takes away from the dialogue

    The only think you might’ve missed here is he said “Starting now” at least four times. Also wondering where that footage of Janice actually being shot came from?
