The best fabric softener is vinegar. It also keeps colors from fading, lint balls from forming, gets rid of off smells and detergent residue, and keeps your ashing machine free from limescale. If you want a lavender or some other fragrance, spray some perfume on them when putting them away. I just put orange leaves on the bottom of the drawers since I have a few trees nearby. I imagine dried flowers would work the same.
