During self-isolation in these crazy times, I thought it'd be a fun idea to do "morning pages" style videos as soon as we wake up. An unfiltered (although edited) stream of consciousness over your morning cup of tea!
Head over to Carrie's channel for an daily video each evening.

In case you missed my comment last time, I made a Spotify playlist from the song segments. It’s called Oli’s Lovely Good Morning. Please enjoy!

lily hey no worries! I thought it would be fun to keep them together in a playlist since it’s become a whole little segment in itself! The songs fit pretty well together too which is nice!

My showcase was the day after Boris closed theatres so we didn't do it! :( It was meant to run as 6 7 minute shows, and we were all placed in one or two on casting! We all had to be in different outfits too and they had to be approved by our principal and head of year. It was going to be at The Other Palace! Thankfully we filmed the dress run so that got sent out, but it's really sad that we never did it :(

My showcase was pretty well balanced. We all had a solo song, small group scene group numbers and a pure group dance number. Everything was equally timed. We got a say in our songs but creative team had final say if they thought it wasn't right for you. It was really stressful though. Felt like so much was riding on it.

Has he said in the don’t part, “Don’t worry, be happy” yet, cause almost thought Oliver was going to say that 😂

first time I heard "for the longest time" was at the Sheldonian theatre Oxford, acapella, as a farewell to my favourite teacher (~2009) makes me cry every time - thanks for that selection and for bringing back such fond memories :)

Oh my gosh I completely relate to working with directors who want everything to be dark. I was in a high school production of Alice in Wonderland and our director wanted it to be edgy and honestly kind of emo....on the day of the show she made us either scrap or paint everything that was colorful so that it was all black and white except for Alice's costume. It was ridiculous

Showcase sounds like a lot of pressure! Loved being signed but both times I was I had a day job so don't feel like I made the most of it. Think it can also depend if the agency specialises in your skill. I got signed as a contortionist/aerialist both times via twitter which was cool. Though since I have done ok on my own. What I mean to say is for anyone worried you can do it on your own with hard work xxxx

Did you have to do any courses on the technical side of theatre while at school, like scenic/lighting/costume design, or directing, or was it all performance based?

I'm really surprised you only do two productions in UK drama schools. I went through a university drama program and the department did four full play/musical productions every year. Students in every year could audition for them but mostly 3rd and 4th years get cast.

  • @TheMaralices

because in the UK it is a 3 year program so we also spend half of our 3rd year training. In the US/Canada they have 4 years so more time for training and for shows.

Ok, that is really weird about that school musical and you all not being allowed to go and do auditions... what's the point even? :p But hey, glad you made it, so in your face, school! :p Carrie, how come you never went to theatre/acting/drama school(how do you call it?)? I know you were already doing auditions as a kid and all that, but you'd think especially because of that you would go to such a school. No judgment of course, I'm just wondering, as a parent especially.

From the research ive been doing towards my applications for next year, it really depends on what university you want to go to. Make sure you research the university well, so that you love the school, and that they offer a third year showcase. Most good courses will offer a showcase. Its always good to apply for university and drama schools, most drama schools are the same price as universities now!

It depends on the university and even then it could come down to the course! My university has a lot of acting/mt based courses but each course gets a different showcase, some courses get to go to London and some don’t!
