Good Foods Taste Great: David McInerney at TEDxManhattan
Join FreshDirect's co-founder David McInerney, as he champions changing the way people eat as a featured speaker at the 2013 TEDx Manhattan conference. McInerney travels the world meeting with hundreds of farmers, fisherman, and ranchers to source the healthiest, freshest, highest quality foods in existence for FreshDirect's customers. During his travels, McInerney has become keenly aware that there is a fundamental flaw in our food system, which forces our farmers to grow food for transport rather than taste. What's more, today fresh foods don't taste like they should; people aren't eating them, and processed foods are winning--and its crippling our country's health. During TEDx Manhattan, McInerney calls on the retailer and the consumer to help change our broken food cycle and join in his taste crusade, to allow farmers to grow good foods that taste great, helping to change the way people eat, and change the world.
David McInerney has been on a "tastes-great" crusade for the past twenty years. A former French-trained chef, he is a co-founder of FreshDirect.com, the leading online grocer in the U.S.
In strategically setting the direction for food at FreshDirect, David helps educate and provide higher quality fresh food to millions in New York and Philadelphia. Every year, he spends the majority of his time visiting and building relationships with local and global farmers, ranchers, and fishermen, giving him a rare view across the entire sustainable food spectrum.
David started his food career while studying and working in Burgundy under renowned chef Bernard Loiseau at his Michelin 3-Star restaurant La Cote d'Or and later under legendary New York Chef David Bouley.
He is a sought after speaker and food educator. He has dedicated his life to changing the way consumers eat, and how the industry sources fresh, healthy, sustainable foods.

I'm a huge supporter of the local farmer AND Fresh Direct. Very informative and inspiring watch. Thank you, Mr. McInerney!
So true!!! It is our responsibility to speak out for our health and our families and most importantly our fresh Farmers!! We need to speak out and spread the truth... even if it costs more; in the long run, it will cost less and serve us well.
SO proud to work for this company. I see firsthand the care the team takes to make sure the product is fresh. The customer is always first and we do our best to deliver the freshest foods from farms in the local area.
I like his approach to getting tasty produce to his store. Even better though, is the fact he incorporates exercise into his speech ... always pacing ... back and forth. It's a common habit and one that should be stamped out. Thanks.
As a retail company, they have to provide a competitive range of products to their customers just to stay afloat. The important thing is that the better locally-produced options do exist and can be promoted alongside mass-produced junk, and people like David will continue to raise the public's awareness of the benefits. Speaking personally, it does come down to dollars and cents sometimes, but we try to avoid large chain stores and often buy a local/organic alternative for a couple bucks more.
this is why I want to have a restaurant that utilizes the local farmers.
This is so important. Thank you.
Amazing and true stories. I got it.
Great exposition!,
So proud of david
Great discussion and information to support local farmers and ranchers, which I do. Sad to see that on his site he also sells products that are not local but mass produced and not organic or natural healthy foods. Like Coca Cola etc. I will continue to buy local from great farmers and ranchers with hopes all others do as well, and retailers will buy local as possible and not mass purchasing.

After buying some really pathetic fruit, I was talking to the produce mgr at the store I shop at and asked if him or staff sample the fruit when it comes in to check out the quality. His response was "no" in a tone that said "are you kidding me?"
