Oh my...what a beautiful huge tree...now gone forever. Fills my heart with pain everytime I see such a thing happen. They cut so many big trees here in my area, mainly for construction. Thanks Ed für sharing your thoughts and feelings!

Buenos días, sad that such a beautiful tree 🌳 was taken down. Was it due to new development? I see all the changes. Thank you for your videos.

I know from a friend of mine that like 5 years ago Uvita was like nothing compared to now! so many new buildings, stores, shops.... He didn't even recognize it anymore earlier this year! I've only been there once and I really love it!

I totally understand your loss. We also had a large shade tree in the center of Jaco for many years next to Mas por Menos. When I had a red taxi here we loved the shade it provided as we parked under it waiting for a call on the CB radio or passengers would come directly from the store. It was called punto ono because it was in the center of Jaco. Then the lot it was in front of was sold and developed so the tree was cut down completely and gone for ever.

I am so sorry. We are all connected, as you know. I am familiar wit the tree you are speaking about and it is VERY sad. I have seen trees murdered too and it's painful. We are all part of this, so connected to each other and to Mother Earth. Trees help keep us and all the creatures cool. All we can do is spread light and love and fruit tree seeds. Costa Rica has changed so much since I first arrived in Uvita in 2018. Utiva especially has changed. Although there are more great restaurants it is sad to see such beauty destroyed so people can live somewhere. Planning a city is also important and Uvita just seems like there is no plan. The highway thru town is just trecherous. Stay safe Ed. Pura Vida

Buenas días Señor Ed. My sentiments on the big Mango tree might not be similar to yours, but it is a shame they had to make such a drastic, you can’t really call it pruning, more like a untrained person was given a chainsaw and instructed to clean it up a little and that was the result. As I’ve told you the large Mango tree at my rental property suffered a similar fate most recently and I’m told it will start to grow back new branches in and around December. I certainly hope that is the case with this tree in Calle Uvita as they haven’t completely cut it down to the roots and removed the stump. It would unfair for me to answer your question on the changes to Calle Uvita, having driven up that street for the past 2 years almost everyday. I one thing I will say is I’m glad they painted that yellow coloured house, grey. As for the bird squawking, my guess a Macaw. In my short 2+ years here in Uvita the changes throughout this area have been quite noticeable and dramatic. The price of increased growth and more people from all over the world moving into the Southern Zone. Not what I had envisioned when I’d decided to escape from large populations to live a quiet more warmer existence. Sad but true. There are other places less developed in CR than Uvita has become, but I do love this place and its people as you do.

Why did they take the tree down, was it damaged or sick? Such a bummer. I know how it feels, my husband cut down a tree I was fond of and it made me very sad.

Dear friend Don Eduard, the tree is not dead, not yet, these types of trees can re-emerge, but we must prevent them from finishing the job of bringing it to the ground. You can file a complaint with MINAE, the number is given on the toll-free number 1113, in Costa Rica you cannot cut trees either on the side of the road or in the vicinity of a stream or river, without proper permission, which is very difficult. to obtain, that is why some cut them clandestinely. The tree has not died yet.
