Im shopping around for head units. I haven't needed/wanted one in about a decade. Thank you for providing content like this where I can crash-course into current tech and stuff to make a more informed decision and what price point can get me what. I bought a cheapy dashboard mounted CarPlay thing, its cool enough and janky enough to make me want to do this the right way

I would never buy myself a boss radio but I can't lie. I'm impressed by the specs on this one

@@vincentlopez2781 yeah I have a friend who has a different boss radio but its still the elite line up and it seems pretty good. I went with sonys xav5600 though and its honestly better. From the sound to the capacitive touch screen and screen quality.

I had my boss radio for two years no issues! I have the same one as in the video. I'm about to upgrade to another tho for wireless android auto

Looks to me like the only one with a VOLUME knob is the least expensive. Anyone that's ever driven a busy interstate having to search out a "virtual" volume control will know which of these is REALLY best.

Most vehicles nowadays will have volume buttons on the steering wheel. Also, the Alpine head unit in the video doesn't have a knob, but it does have physical volume up and down buttons. Lastly, Alpine offers a Bluetooth knob that adjusts volume and bass that you can mount anywhere as long as it's within Bluetooth range.

@@NotTodayBud yeah most vehicles "nowadays" also come with carplay. If you're buying one of these it's likely to put in an older car that may not have buttons on the steering wheel.

That's a good video. I would have liked to see a 4th unit. Pioneer? At least a $300-$450ish range. Pioneer has my heart from the 80-90s. Kinda undecided on which model to choose in that range. Pioneer, that is. Anyway, i feel Pioneer, Alphine, and Kenwood are the podium holders.

If you’re a car audio nuthead no doubt you would pick Alpine easy. Yes it’s expensive but their attention to detail when it comes to audio set-up is still best in the game even after 3 decades. It’s like the Sony of TVs lol.

Damm that alpine is dope I need that in my life 🤣

My main requirement is for it to have a volume dail. I refuse to even consider one without it. I will continue to wait.

Yeah why do these companies expect the user to have all these nice features but have to press tiny buttons in the car to change the volume when even the most clapped radio in the oldest cars have a volume knob

It’s a little older but the Sony AX1000 is my favorite head unit I’ve ever owned. Great audio tuning with high/low pass filtering. Also has the knob which is a must for me too haga

No mention of Tidal hi res streaming with MQA, Alpine is the only brand to offer it.

Question about the Alpine. Since it has a pretty extensive eq/dsp how would the head unit built in crossovers compare to say a standalone amplifier/dsp ? I’m trying to get a new head unit but also at the same time I need an amp or I can continue to use my old jl360 a/b amp to power my inside speakers but it doesn’t have those crossover features. I’m stuck man ughhh I low key just need to do 10ch active 😅

Do any of the double dins have built in batteries like tablets so that they can keep their memory when they're turned off without draining the car battery.

Hey im buying a new head unti soon. You recommend the dmx907 (cant find your review on it) or the alpine 507. The kenwood has 192khz and it has 5 volts. But j wonder if 507 will have better sound quality to begin with

what's the difference between DMX7709S and DMX8709S? in crutchfield all the specs look the same, but the 7709s is $100 cheaper 🤔

Hi I'm very fun of your channel and I think your doing amazing job to inform people but my question is what would be a perfect a head unit for my Mistubish 2018 outlander UK and I don't care about the price just fastest, the good quality for watching a Netflix and KZread and I'm using android phone and i do have a 4 cameras, sit hitting, steering wheel hitting, and cruise control, and voice commands on the wheel thanks.

Yes from my experience the sound quality is much better on those units. If you are building a good system go with the better units. But it always depends on everyone’s budget

Josh, I have a flat dash. Does anyone make a trim to slant my double din head unit toward the driver?

Could you do a video on which brand/models are best for wireless Apple Carplay? It seems some take longer to load or have lag problems when most of us just want the stereo to quickly boot and immediately display waze, nobody has done a comparison video

Atoto F7 XE costs about 170 dollars Wireless Apple CarPlay and android auto Nice screen Very responsive It’s a Linux based system So no adding apps But for basic head unit with wireless Apple CarPlay and android auto it’s a great deal Lots of video on them here.

With the Alpine, can you change the lighting colors for the buttons and stuff to match the cars dashboard? And will it boot up Apple CarPlay instantly when you start the car or do you have to connect manually every time?

By watching the video oh, it sure appears the boss does not use Wi-Fi but just Bluetooth. That would slow it down I'm sure but is that true?

Really love your reviews. However, after watching them I'm torn between the Alpine iLX-507 and Kenwood DMX 8709S, and if it's really worth going up to the Kenwood DMX 958xr I'd consider it. I use an Apple phone, and need the upgrade in order to use Carplay, install one rear camera, have access to Sirius, HD radio, Navigation, and possibly play KZread music videos once in awhile. I'd appreciate it if you would tell me what you would do considering these choices, or if you think there is something better that I haven't considered. The car is a 2011 Mercedes SLK 300 and the budget just for the stereo is between $500 to $850, thank you for your help.

Any recommendation for a double din that is fast and responsive? just a plain one for reverse camera and hi res audio only. No need for any apps... I can't seem to find one with this lack of modern features that just slow them down and make them laggy

that's total peak power over 4 channels, I just got this head unit, gonna install it tmr but it does 20 watts per 4 channels RMS and 85 watts per 4 channels peak power,

Kenwood DDX5707S has all and that’s what I’m considering. Right now it’s $319 at Best Buy with free installation.

@@michaelwelsh9957 Best Buy has a few but the tech in the screen isn’t the best and I don’t wanna end up with something that runs slow after 6 months you know lol but I’m probably bitting the bullet soon here and just getting the kenwood or pioneer because I wanna upgrade my speakers also but with the factory head unit still in it doesn’t make a lot of sense

Wow, car stereos need a redesign on their menu interface. It looks really dated. Good think car play looks good though. Just the menu looks a tad clunky

Atoto S8 Gen 2 - $299 and competes aggressively with these same units. The Boss is garbage no matter what the specs are. Installed S8 3 years ago into my 2002 Ford F150 and it has performed the same as head units over 1k.

I wouldn't touch any Alpine product. Their website for firmware updates has been down for months, I am convinced they are no longer in business or just don't care about customers

I will never buy boss again. Worst experience ever.

I had a similar boss unit it was trash didnt even last a week was like 3 days and went dead. definitely NOT GOOD... There are now 2 brands I will NEVER EVER BUY AGAIN of head units one is jensen and the other is Boss. To add insult to injury some jerk at Boss in the warranty department named cristian inisisted the problem was something it was not, and even hung up on me twice. This guy should definitely not be working in the position he somehow was given.
