One of the most powerful opening scenes of a movie I've ever scene.

Really the best Chinese actress I've seen. The way she elicits emotion here is masterful. It is deeply moving, but refined and restrained. Gong Li is very talented.

two words : PRECISION & CONTROL. Gong Li, has mastered these. and it doesn't hurt that she's soooooooooooooooo beautiful!

I don't get it, how could anyone limit the importance of this movie, or Gong Li's acting to China only? Raise the Red Lantern is the world-class movie, international classic, and Gong Li is possibly the greatest actress today.

Just watched this movie today. It is one of the best, but one of the most depressing movies I have ever seen. And in some way, this character legit has the same personality as me, minus being forced to marry someone. I just gotta say, Gong Li was just amazing in this movie and I can't wait to see her in the 2020 Mulan movie.
