Gondola Ride in Venice (And the BEST FREE view in all of Venice, Italy)

After our downer of a last video, we decided to lighten things up and loosen our purse strings a little and take a world famous gondola ride in Venice. We chose to do a shared gondola ride through a tour group and it was awesome. We also balanced out our day of spending by finding the best free thing to do in Venice--which also happens to get you the BEST view in all of Venice!

My wife & I were last in Venice (& Europe) 25 years ago. We were college students & broke. This was our honeymoon trip, gifted by our parents. Decided to do a month long packaged tour of 6 countries instead of having a big wedding. Best decision ever. Were on a budget but managed to see what we wanted & splurged on the excursion & some nice meals. The experience & memories are priceless. A honeymoon is only once, right? Like everyone has said, try not to stress. Good to see you guys smiling. Enjoy your trip, be flexible & stay safe.

I know a lot of people think that gondola's tours are expensive, which I thought too before I had my own trip: I think sitting on the gondola and sliding on the water surrounded by old decadent buildings it's the real Venice experience, something you don't get from the bigger boats crossing the canal or from land. Besides where the gondola goes you cannot go with normal boats because it's not deep enough, so you go through the "rii" (the narrow waterways are called rii (plural) and rio (singular) basically only by gondola. I have to say I love your approach to travelling, you are not rushing from one place to another trying to see as much as possible, instead you sit and let the scenery affects you, which is very Italian I must say. With this approach Italy is the perfect place for budget travelling because if you just deviate from the few most famous cities you have plenty of smaller cities with a lot to see for free or very little price, decent B&B, great food. You can enjoy the changing landscape and architecture from all eras. I know I sound parochialist, what can I say, I am just proud of my country and I find silly that most of tourists have such "fast" attitude . By the way, not sure it may interests you, there is a channel of an Italian couple, travelling on a budget like you, their videos are in English, and maybe some info might get useful to you too. If you wish check them out: "LeAw-Leave everything and wander"! I vote for their latest videos of my region "We Found Paradise" and "Unspoiled Tuscany Val d'Orcia" and "Cascate del Mulino Saturnia". Enjoy!

ottimo video. 🤢

  • @LisaAndJosh

As of right now, that green pass is just for residents of the EU, and we haven't yet seen any evidence of anyone using it, or it being required anywhere. Very likely in the near future, uploading your COVID vaccination record to an app to travel around the EU will be required for some countries and restaurants for foreigners, but there's no official information yet. We'll make a video as soon as something is announced.
