That was me until a couple of years ago. Now I have 3 tarantulas. I have a lasiodora parahybana, chromatopelma cyaneopubescens, and a brachypelma hamorii.

Yeah for some reason spiders that are a quarter of an inch to half an inch are horrific as hell but these big boys don't strike that same fear in me at all. Only exception to me is Jumping Spiders, they're the chill small ones.

@@Zetr0fucking facts lmao I always have jumping spiders come in my room cause my window is next to a garden outside but I always let them jump on me then I take them outside,but a black widow/huntsman,or a funnel web spider?fuck that💀there’s so many outside my house sometimes I feed them outside cockroaches I see on the floor,watching them come out all excited to a good meal is fucking awesome lmao,always get goosebumps while doing it though💀

They are also said to be quite solitary until provoked. When provoked they can rub the hairs on there legs to create a loud irritating noise scaring away most predators

Its not the noise that scaring away predators, but the urticating hair that flying around and can cause irittation especially when it land on predators eyes

They dont stridulate (the loud noise) by rubbing the abdomen. It’s the rubbing of the abdomen that causes the hairs (setae) to get flown into the air. They stridulate (the loud noise) because on the inside face of their fangs (chelicerae) they have ´hairs´ caused stridulatory setae. When they rub their fangs, they produce that sound.
In Brazilian Portuguese it’s called Caranguejeira which means more or less _crab-like_ due to it’s size. Very common in the rural areas of Brazil.

@@beyoncesdaughter9128 No, it is a real 'fear', as I had grown up in outskirts of City, country land is filled with spiders and snakes too! We had our share of the creepy-crawlers of all kinds, in our house and esp in the basement. And, a deadly "Black Widow" building a large, beautiful web 🕷 🕸 just outside of bathroom, backyard window. Even my 'fearless' Dad had quickly sprayed, swatted with broom, and stomped it dead. That spider was very hard to kill!
OH HELL NAW!! I could barely watch this. In order to watch this short, I threw the phone on the floor and watched it from ten feet away . Beautiful creature .

I think they have tiny little claws on the tips of their legs. But those are legs and claws and not hands.

I held one of these when i was 9 and will never forget the experience, bruh chilled on me while I was watching The Abyss (Movie). It was a friend's and I was over. This guy was releasing all his leg hairs, and that shit was itchy and caused a skin rash. Still pretty cool!!

Some caterpillars protect themselves with a covering of such "irritant" hairs that are much more toxic than the ones used by these spiders.

@@None-zc5vg caterpillar hairs cause burning at the touch and can even give you fever lol and it sucks bc unlike the warning sound spiders make, caterpillars are quietly chilling on leaves

It's still a surprise to me that the Goliath bird eaters are still more docile than others tarantula species smaller than them, or just the tarantulas from South America are more docile than the ones from Asia in general. These one for example will only response when provoked but many old world tarantulas will strike preemptively.

That's because Old World tarantulas never evolved stinging hairs, so they only have their fangs & venom to defend against larger predators.

They live in the most tarantula-dense place on earth. A banquet of cousins to chew down on is a pretty big boon. You win a few, you lose a few.

I used to have one many years ago when it was still the largest spider, before the huntsman was discovered in Laos. She was awesome, but she was very aggressive and mean.

At one picture you showed a Lasiodora Parahybana instead of one of the three Therophosabreeds (blondii, stirmii or apophysis). The Lasiodora also is a very big spider, but she does have the black color wirh the white stripes. Only the ones with the brown hairs ist the one you're talking about in this video, the goliath tarantula (Theraphosa spp.)

In my language it’s called something like _crab-like spiders_ (caranguejeiras) I imagined that was due to their size! Never heard it was edible in any culture!

I think the fact that this relatively small spider is the largest on earth is proof that the universe may not be completely against us, even though nature is brutal

They don’t shoot barbed hairs, they flick them in to the air and it acts like fiber glass on your skin, they can’t shoot them, they rub their legs against the grain of their hair and in to the air it floats
I own two and they’re so much fun. Watching them take down prey, threat posing, and all they’re so awesome

Right at the start, I don't like that threat pose on that person's hand, on a new world no less. Kind of tells me just picked that spider up, instead of letting it walk onto the hand on it's own. Poor blondi, getting stressed like that for a video(not you but whoever the footage was from).

I’m an Australian, and when I was a kid I had this treehouse that I used to play in almost everyday. But in the inside, on the middle of the door there was a ginormous black spider that I thought was a prop for a few years (it wasn’t). It was about the size of the spider mentioned in this video, and it never moved (that’s why I thought it was fake). But when a hive of bees moved into the treehouse, I wasn’t allowed to play on it, after my parents got rid of the bees, I was allowed to play on it again, but the spider wasn’t there. Bro dipped frfr.
