Golf R done right? 450hp Golf R by Integrated Engineering - Fast Blast - Everyday Driver

This Mk6 Golf R has been tuned by Integrated Engineering in an effort to provide high horsepower and maintain drivability. Since we've always wanted a more insane Golf R, we were curious to drive it and see if it's successful.

Loved how tasteful they made the car and brought it into another level. The Golf R from the factory just falls short, but a simple tune really turns it into another animal.

My Mk6 runs about 310 hp with a retune of the ECU without touching a single thing under the bonnet, Dyno tested with proof , its quite fast with that much HP without throwing on another 140hp, it must be insanely fast. On highway cycle i regularly get 600 kilometers from a single tank without trying.

It spends 99% of its time as front wheel drive because it's Haldex awd. Totally different then full time torsen all wheel drive.

  • @abdbach379

    @abdbach379

    7 жыл бұрын

kelsey3283 it's not "99%"where did you get that number from jezz... it engages in almost every corner or in slippery conditions or under load....and the moment you step hard on the throttle it sends 50% of the power to the back, so in reality you'll never feel the torque steer because only about 150hp max goes to the front, that's why you it doesn't torque steer and it has a feature that uses electric motor in steering assist to counter torque steer and it works great, have it on my golf, it also exists in the GTI that's why with even 220hp to the front wheels and and no AWD it still doesn't torque steer, same thing with the ClubSport with up to 290 hp and still no torque steer.

FWD biased (normally), AWD system. Not the same as a Quattro (longitudinal mounted engines), or Subaru Symmetrical, BMW Xdrive, or a Nissan GT-R. It's going to put power to the back when the system needs it, otherwise there is still a lot of power to the front wheels, which act like a vehicle normally powering front wheels (torque steer). Big difference between a car supplementing power to front wheels when the back needs it, compared to a car supplementing power to the back when the front needs it.

This is one of the best tuned Golf R I have ever seen. I love the "sleeper" looks, the balanced and poised stance of the car. I really think this video has has tremendously helped in resolving a decision making process for me. I have been contemplating since the beginning of this year which car to buy: Dodge Challenger Hellcat or a tuned Golf R. I know this looks like trying to choose between an apple and sticks of celery, but I love these two high performance vehicles and I can't afford both at the same time. May be with the help of you guys, my 2017 Golf R will be a formidable 'tour-de-force', unequalled performance king of the road that I have always dreamed of and will enjoy for a long time. Shoot me your e-mail address or something because I really like what I saw. Keep up the good work.

Sweet kick ass. I had a 1984 GTI then a 1990 GLI 16V then 2 kids & needed more room so 7 years ago I bought a 2005 Passat Wagon 1.8T with 4 Motion & the best part a 5 speed manual. But it would be even more fun to drive it with 450 hp think they could do something like that to my Passat? But I don't now if I want it to be faster then my 1994 Porsche 911 C4 wide body but it sure would be fun. And I would still buy a TDI .

+Sergio Aguirre perhaps with an ridiculous amount of suspension, diff, wheel, tire, brake, transmission, mods. It eventually comes to a certain point of asking "why keep spending all this effort on a front-wheel drive vehicle? It's less useful than a 500-600 HP AWD vehicle at low speeds, which would be under 75. One of of my coworkers has a '1500 HP CTS-V, DDs a '13 S65 w/800 HP. The other has a '10 1200 HP Durango 2500 Cummins by DBS & DDs his Hellcat red key, they're in-laws. The Caddy & Dodge will easily smoke rubber at 75-100 MPH on the interstate. Pretty insane stuff. AWD simple makes more sense on a car for most people. Both the cars I drive, Mk6 & 7 GTIs, with a tune they have 260 & 300 HP. This is ample to me on nice tires BUT 300-400 HP in a Golf R is another world.

+Richard Fergusson not on the motorway. Perhaps on bald tires. Gotta get good ones, Michelin Pilot Sports grip quite well. Low speeds is where AWD helps. A 300 HP stage 1 Mk7 GTI vs a stage 1 Mk7 Golf R really shows. With the R 0-60 is 3.6-.8 & 100 around 9.5. The GTI is 2 seconds slower or more in each.

+Sergio Aguirre not disagreeing they're out there but the reliability concern is debatable - that is the benefit of Haldex 5 that send power to the rear before slipping occurs, unlike the previous gen on the R Matt is driving here. This is why most modern supercars either have AWD or fancy active aero. It's possible to do anything. Some jet skis come with 255 HP stock.

+Onoff314 Fuel mileage around town and freeway is unaffected UNLESS you use the power. If you do lots of full throttle acceleration, obviously it chews through fuel like a 450hp engine would ;)

I've got a 2017 camaro ss, 455hp/455tq @ the crank and online dyno reports are about 420 for both. Fuel economy on a recent 6000km road trip was 8.0L/100 km or 35mpg Cdn. The reason for mentioning the camaro is to show with the right engineering this kind on mileage is attainable in a 450hp car. The camaro is 3700 pounds so I'd think the golf would be lighter so depending on gearing maybe the golf would do even better. I did look seriously at the R but no sunroof was a deal breaker and long term reliability with a VW is always a question mark.

Yeah, it's $7K for 450 hp...if you already have the supporting parts. From their site: "Along with the turbo kit, you will need an IE FDS intercooler, IE HPFP, IE450T cold air intake kit, Milltek cat-back exhaust system, and IE mid pipe." Plus 8 - 10 hrs professional labor. I'm sure it's a great kit and this video makes me want an MK6 Golf R, but it's not "$7K for 450 hp".

So what is better value? A GTI with the same mods and similar power (a little less) for maybe 30-36k total. Or this Golf R with a little more HP and AWD for 45-47k? Personally I'll take the GTI with some winter tires if needed. For almost 50k total you are looking at an entirely different category of car which the R just doesn't quite match up.

why would you compare a mazdaspeed 3 to a golf r? Of course you dont feel tourqesteer. First the golf has 4 wheel drive the mazda 2 wheel drive. Secondly its a VW they never have had good steeringfeel, you dont feel what the car and the road is doing. for me its just not a drivers car. the mazda on the other hand is in my opinion. sadly its not build anymore, but i would love to see it coming back. But as always a good quality review keep it up guys!

No, actually it's front wheel drive entirely, only until the fronts slip. At this point the haldex pump pressurizes and the rear end kicks in. No front wheel drive vw has torque steer anymore really either. Not saying the 3 isn't a great car, because it is, but the transaxle was just TERRIBLY designed.
