My guess is it's someone with a home nearby who is irritated by mosquitoes and quietly seeded the pond with goldfish, which eat mosquito larvae.

In East Asia releasing animals into the wild is a sign of good luck. Many of the evasive species in North America are because of this. The jumping carp and lionfish are a few examples which are linked to this.

People really don't realize. Goldfish can actually get up to 1.5-2 FT in length and they can live up to 30. I've always kept goldfish, since I was 7. But I wasn't the typical 7yr old, I always kept my tanks clean and never got rid of any animal I personally wanted. I'm in mt 20s now and believe it or not I still have some of my goldfish I bought as FEEDERS when I was in my early teens. If you're gonna get a goldfish or multiple just keep in mind 20 Gallons for 1 and then 5 gallons per each extra you want to add. And they can get huge and really beautiful as they age (you have to hand pick the ones you want and tell the employee their pets and not feeders) which was what I did at the time and they live a really long time.

Exactly! Koi (Cyprinus rubrofuscus) a cousin of goldfish (Carassius auratus) will grow to three feet in length and weigh upwards of 30 pounds, while goldfish grow can reach 1.5 feet and weigh 10 pounds. These are average sizes not the anomaly world record type I think was 60+ pounds😬. Thirty years is a long time, imagine the millions of eggs a large female would lay during that time. I just wish dogs would live that long🥺.

People are NOT dumping the family fish in the lake! It’s people fishing with them as bait. Cheap and very attractive to other species of predatory fish … that’s the problem! I have owned fish tanks for 10 years plus and never have thought to take them to a close by lake.

If a predator eats to many goldfish it will die from a vitamin deficiency. Also using goldfish has bass bait is probably why they are there.
