Golden Gate 2019

Спорт

After getting skunked on Silver Creek and hiking out just around the confluence of the South Fork American River the team was on a mission: boat recovery. Team Paddlers Trevor, Daniel and Nathan Hobbs got out on the Golden Gate section of the South Fork American River. The whole adventure started 6 weeks earlier on when someone commented "Why don't you just run down Golden Gate rather than hike in?" Daniel responded "The boat I would take on Golden Gate is at the bottom of Golden Gate". In true rafter form the guys decided that going downstream would be much easier than hiking in and this is how it went down. If you haven't seen the Silver Creek video that started it all you can check it out here: • Lower Silver Creek
We have had a few people asking us for some longer from vlog style content of the team in action during their expeditions so we kept this one a bit more in depth so you can see what the team went through to get out on this awesome river.

Really awesome!!! 14 minutes in is a pretty crucial moment for team paddler Trevor adjusting his pants ;) What's the flow!? A lot of it looks really good to go in a tandem IK, although maybe a little lower my first time down would be good...

What kind of raft was up in there? Looks like an R2 would have been easier, but who wants to stay home?

it looks like an NRS. What's an R2? They are R2ing... I'd wanna take my super puma down it.

I can see the cat having a little tail floating behind. I think it is smart but people keep saying that is a dangerous thing to do. Have you ever had any issue with it ?

Max - it is standard practice for a cat to have "tag lines" floating on all 4 corners. They are usually 6-8 feet long, and typically flat webbing or a cam strap. Although they do present a slight entrapment hazard, the utility and safety they provide by giving a swimmer the opportunity to reach the boat far outweigh the slight risk of entanglement. A cat boater (or any boater, really) never wants to be separated from his/her boat in Class V whitewater...
